Description Ulrich Windl 2019-09-10 09:51:48 UTC
Libreoffice is one family of programs. However the individual programs have very different concepts:
For example Writer has character styles, paragraph styles, list styles, page styles, etc.
Draw just seems to have a "drawing object style" with text being part of the draw object.

Why can't here be character or paragraph styles in Draw? Having "all in one style" does not look very flexible.

Having a style hierarchy similar to Writer seems to be much better.

Sorry, but this is a non-bug. Although all applications are part of LibreOffice, every application has its own needs. These n Ed's are technically justified.

I agree. It's not possible to unify everything as every component has different elements.

It's very well POSSIBLE, you just have to want it. These days it seems much easier in Inkscape/SVG to do these kind of things than it is with LO Draw:
Consider you want all your graphics objects use the same font or font size, or you want specific classes of drawing objects to have some consistent font, font size, fill pattern, outline line width, etc.

I'm aware that most people don't think or work like that, but how can people change if it's not "possible"?

Of cause it is "possible". Unfortunately it is not only a simple UI change, but the code would need deep changes in the edit engines. Getting the Writer edit engine features to the Draw edit engine and the other way round is such a large task, that you need a team of developers, who know LibreOffice very well and can work on it over a longer time. Currently there is no entity that would pay for it. If the error report would be in "NEW" status, that would not really change anything.
