Description horus 2019-09-12 10:34:03 UTC
LibreOffice applications always take some time to display totally. So while they are loading, I would work on other application windows.

But when any LibreOffice application window is displayed, it would steal focus and all my keyboard typing would get into LibreOffice app. And this is very annoying.

Hello horus,
How long it takes to launch LibreOffice ?
Comment 2 horus 2019-09-30 17:02:40 UTC
In my computer having a SSD, opening a small spreadsheet file could take up to 5 seconds. I could imagine with mechanical hard drive, the delay could be double or even triple.

You can upload screencast here.

Please try to turn off LO splash screen.

This behavior of stealing focus remains an issue for some users who, like me, tend to work on multiple documents at a time. I too load a LO file and turn to do other stuff whilst it loads. It does annoy me that LO captures focus automatically.

A similar bug was filed in 2013 and comments up till 2019 said it got worse (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59803). Then this thread was opened but it was closed due to insufficient data.

A screenshot is useless in this kind of bug. What can be uploaded is a video showing LO taking focus whilst working on another program. However it can be reproduced very easily:

1. Open Notepad
2. Double click Writer document
3. Turn to Notepad (Alt + Tab) and start typing

Behavior: You will end up typing on Writer

Expected behavior: Libreoffice should not steal focus but flash the taskbar button when loading is complete. A kind of "work in the background" possibility.

My system is: Win 10 x64 running LO, however the bug has been reported as early as LO v. 4.0.4.2

Version: 6.4.7.2 (x64)
Build ID: 639b8ac485750d5696d7590a72ef1b496725cfb5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: GL; VCL: win;
Locale: en-GB (en_US); UI-Language: en-GB
Calc: threaded

Per https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_status, Reopened is wrong status.

I can reproduce this myself, it loading a large file in LO and go to type in Notepad in the meantime, for example.
Here, we have a general issue "Stealing Focus in Windows" combined with typing in other program to spare a few seconds.
Not sure if LO can fix that.

But why is it "Unconfirmed"? This problem is real and confirmed. Unconfirmed status would mean we are all lying.

FYI, recent versions of Mozilla Firefox are able to avoid stealing focus.
Steps:
1. Firefox is already open.
2. Make sure it's not active.
3. Right-click on Firefox icon on the task bar and choose "Open new window"

In my case, new Firefox is opened in the background.

PS: I am no longer using LibreOffice anymore. Too tired to bypass all the problems it has. So I rarely reply to bug comments. If anyone wants to take the lead in this bug, please go ahead.

Because to set New IMO it's not enough to reproduce, which I also do, but to be able to resolve. I wasn't sure it was possible, but should be, if MSO and Firefox can do it. So let's keep new so far, unless we get different explanation.

Here's another example that Firefox does NOT steal focus:
I'm using Windows 10's Calendar app. I have an event open and the window is in the foreground and it's active, ie it has focus.
In the event description, I have a hyperlink.
I clicked on the link (Ctrl+click actually).

Result:
A new Firefow tab is opened in the background.
