Description Dave 2019-09-14 14:24:07 UTC
Description:
In previous versions of Writer, before the tabbed menu was standard, there was a selection under the File menu for Save a Copy. This seems to have disappeared in recent times. I would like to request an enhancement for its return. Here's why: Save a Copy is an incredibly useful feature when submitting manuscripts to publishers. Many times publishers will ask for submissions in RTF or DOCX format. Save a Copy allows me to keep my original document in ODF and just generate RTFs as needed. The alternative of using Save As will change the format in the current window. I then run the risk of making changes in a format that I do not want to keep as my original document.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a new Writer Document
2. Click the File tab
3. Notice that Save a Copy is missing and cry

Actual Results:
Save a Copy is missing from the selections.

Expected Results:
Save a Copy would be available to select.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This feature was available in previous versions, before the tabbed menu.

I can't repro

Maybe it was deleted inadvertently in Menu/Tools/Customize/Menu

Test with Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode.
Comment 2 Dave 2019-09-15 00:09:01 UTC
Thanks for looking into this. I have restarted in safe mode as suggested. When I do this, the old-style menu appears to be the default, and the Save a Copy option is present under the File menu. To reproduce my missing Save a Copy, switch to the tabbed menu with View > User Interface > Tabbed. Now click the File tab and you will see that the Save a Copy is nowhere to be seen.

Notebookbar -> File Tab -> File menu -> Save a copy

Save a copy is available within the dropdown menu of File Tab. The dropdown menu is available to have there all commands in the notebookbar there are the most common commands.

Resolved fixed, Andreas?
Comment 11 Justin L 2021-09-25 12:21:54 UTC
No, it is not done. It is not in Tabbed Compact.

I'm also not sure why it would not have been added to the drop-down for "Save", since that already includes duplicates of the other shortcuts right beside Save.
