Example file.

The document was saved in June 2018 using the then current copy of Libreoffice. I do not remember any performance issues at the time. When I load it now, it takes forever to load and after loading, the program acts like it is hung. When I click on any options (including closing the file) or attempt to scroll through the document, it goes away for up to a minute and then jumps to the attempted action. I have resorted to killing the process to get out of the document.

The issue comes from the images linked to internet, broken the links the file works properly for me.

Going through Menu/Edit/External links, and clicking on one of the urls goes to the web but with firefox:
"The connection has timed out
The server at images.rootsweb.com is taking too long to respond."

So I don't think it's a LibreOffice bug, if it takes too long also for a navigator.

Disagree. The root cause indeed time-outs
"The connection has timed out
The server at images.rootsweb.com is taking too long to respond."

However, this type document/issue is quite easy to reproduce when doing a copy/paste from the intenet.

1. Open a internet page. Say: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Main_Page
2. Block the internet access
3. CTRL+A CTRL+C the page
4. Paste into Writer -> Images won't be copied. The bottom images (powered by mediawiki won't be downloaded (but get a link)

It will update on file opening.. however if the link is death..

Should the handling of time-outs should be optimized. To reduce the stupid hangs. In cases with broken internet connection or cases as a death link..

Or to not paste link to images... (but probably not helpful for all the broken documents around)

Work around. Firewall/block internet access while opening

Issue is already present in 3.5.7.2
