Saving a file to a server (Ext4 format) is not readable between Linux and Mac sierra platforms any solution appreciated looking for a cross platform office software

Work out your ext4 mounting issues (either Samba SMB/CIFS, or NFS, or perhaps directly with FUSE on you macOS client).

Sort that, and LibreOffice ODF files are cross platform compatible.
