Vertical artifacts on the presentation screen

When presenting a presentation on an external screen, I have always a white vertical artifact on the left of the presentation screen (See attachment). If one switches the screens by means of the button "switch presentation screens" on the presentation-console, then the artifacts are shown on the laptop-screen on the right side of the screen.

This problem is related only to some Linux-distros. I have the problem on Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3 .. 19.2, but not on Ubuntu 19.x and ElementaryOS. The problem is still present in 6.3.3.3 although I was present in previous versions of LO.

I don't know if this problem is a LO-problem or a Linux Mint-problem. I filed this issue as a bug for Linux Mint Cinnamon as well: https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/8926

Thanks for reporting this issue.
Does the problem go away if you launch LibreOffice from commandline with 'SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen soffice' ?
Comment 2 Bernard Decock 2019-12-11 15:15:00 UTC
The command SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen soffice doesn't solve the problem. I have this problem on any kind of presentationscreen. As you can see in the screenshot, the artefact-column has never the full height of the screen. The "artefacts" are part of the desktop-background. It looks that some blanking is done (which looks ok for the bottom-lines, but fails a little bit higher)

It might be a long shot, but sometimes the distribution-packaged versions differ from TDF-packaged ones, so you could try an appimage of a TDF build: https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/

Did you close the Github issue by accident? I have sometimes done it myself as the "close & comment" button is right next to the comment button.

I guess the problem continues with Linux Mint 19.3?
Comment 6 Bernard Decock 2020-04-28 12:13:40 UTC
Indeed, still the case with Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon.
LibreOffice Flatpak 6.4.3.2 Build ID: 747b5d0ebf89f41c860ec2a39efd7cb15b54f2d8
CPU-threads: 2; Besturingssysteem: Linux 5.3; UI-render: standaard; VCL: gtk3;
Flatpak Locale: nl-BE (nl_BE.UTF-8); UI-taal: nl-NL Calc: threaded

I will test the suggested appimage of a TDF build within a few days.
Comment 7 BogdanB 2020-09-17 19:26:17 UTC
Bernard, could you try a newer version of LibreOffice and retest your bug?...
Comment 8 Bernard Decock 2020-09-18 09:07:26 UTC
Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon - Cinnamon 4.6.7 - Kernel 5.4.0-47-generic

Tested with Version: 6.4.5.2 Build ID: 1:6.4.5-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

Tested with Version: 7.0.1.2
Build ID: 7cbcfc562f6eb6708b5ff7d7397325de9e764452
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: nl-BE (nl_BE.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

In both cases the problem remains, a vertical artifact on the right of the canvas of the external screen. I noticed that the vertical artifacts are looking different between LM19.3 and LM20, while they are looking the same with both versions of LO. It looks now that the vertical artifact is something like a part of a window-border.

Vertical artifact is part of some window?
Comment 10 Bernard Decock 2020-09-18 15:16:40 UTC
I filed the bug as "on the left" on the presentation-screen. Well, it's on the right now. But if you toggle the screens by means of the button on the console, then the artifacts are on the left of your computer-screen.
Comment 11 Bernard Decock 2020-09-21 12:09:49 UTC
I encounter the same problem when showing the presentations by means of Calligra Stage.
Comment 12 Timur 2020-09-21 13:59:26 UTC
Seems like not LO issue, so let's close here.
Good luck with finding a cause and solution.
