Paul, please add info from Help->About LibreOffice dialog.

Is your printer network or locale?

oh. You use very old version of LibreOffice.

Paul, please try update your LibreOffice to more modern, like 6.2.8

You can download installer from libreoffice.org/download

https://www.libreoffice.org/donate/dl/deb-x86/6.2.8/ru/LibreOffice_6.2.8_Linux_x86_deb.tar.gz for 32 bit Debian
Comment 4 Paul D Mallett 2019-11-25 16:40:57 UTC
I have now installed LibreOffice:-
Version: 6.2.8.2
Build ID: f82ddfca21ebc1e222a662a32b25c0c9d20169ee
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.9; UI render: default; VCL: gtk2;
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

This has solved the printing error.

Debian has a very conservative upgrade policy and my understanding is that Debian Stretch will not receive an upgrade to LibreOffice. Debian Buster does however contain a newer version of LibreOffice though I don't know the version number.

It may be helpful to others to rename this bug to some thing like "Debian Stretch printing crash"

Thanks for your help, problem solved.
