Page sidebar in Writer has "Same Content" dropdown, with the following elements: "All Pages"; "First Page"; "Left and Right Pages"; "First, Left and Right Pages". These are expected to mean that e.g. "First Page" is first page is *different*. But how could one possibly read "Same Content: First Page" as "Different content on first page"?! Or how could one read "Same Content: First, Left and Right Pages", and see the difference with "Same Content: All" - and again, understand that the former means "different content on the listed categories"? The wording of the control needs to be changed. Simple proposal: change "Same Content" to "Different Content", and "All" to "None". But possibly better not try to over-simplify the UI (that dreaded "by all means, try to squeeze everything into one line!!!") and just make a checkbox group with possibility to choose what has own content.
I confirm, that it the current wording is confusing. But every solution should be in line with header dialog there are only two options with checkboxes: Same content left and right and same content first page. For me those checkboxes are easy to understand. So I go with Mike's propsal to use checkboxes also in the sidebar. As the header dialog shows two checkboxes are enough. Additional information: It seems to me, that - if you change setting in the header dialog, there is no change in the page sidebar (or perhaps I don't understand settings of the sidebar).
How about "Position: [Same on all pages][First page different][Left/Right different][First, left/right different]". But actually the implementation per checkbox as in the page dialog is more straightforward and easier to understand.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #2) > How about "Position: If at all, then not "Position", but "Content" (it's not about positions of the header/footer, but its content)
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #2) > But actually the implementation > per checkbox as in the page dialog is more straightforward and easier to > understand. I agree. It shouldn't be different from page dialog, because that's a potential source of confusion. And of course - as Mike already remarked - "context" is correct wording.
So let's do it in the same way as on the page dialog.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #5) > So let's do it in the same way as on the page dialog. I had again a look at it with Version: 7.2.2.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 02b2acce88a210515b4a5bb2e46cbfb63fe97d56 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19043; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL Sidebar -> Page tab -> Header/Footer Same content [All Pages], [First Page], [Left and Right Pages], [First, Left and Right Pages] Format -> Page Style -> Header/Footer Same content on left and right pages Same content on first page So to be in line with comment 5 from Heiko, there should be two checkboxes in Sidebar -> Page tab -> Header/Footer Same content on left and right pages Same content on first page
Dear Mike Kaganski, To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! Warm Regards, QA Team MassPing-UntouchedBug
