Suggestion to include 'Default' in Custom Styles (& Applied Styles)

In the styles sidebar you can choose Custom Styles. Generally this is the one I (and I am sure others) would want to be permanently up if you use styles.
However, it needs to include the Default style as well, and because it doesn't you're constantly having to switch out of it just to use the default style, and then come back, which is a greatly annoying and regular procedure.
The simplest procedure would be just to include Default in the custom styles list when Custom is chosen.
In fact, you probably want Default on the Applied Styles too where it otherwise only seems to appear once applied. I think it would be of no inconvenience to anyone to show it and of immense benefit.

Why don't you create a custom default style?

I think, there will be bug reports and discussion about it. Same, if it is part of applied styles, but not applied.

So I won't support that idea, but let's ask and decide design-team.

What is the reason to see Default when filtering to only used styles? You may want to understand the inheritance, bug 88559 or from a different POV bug 94427. There are many other requests and we recently published a proposal to improve the situation at https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2019/11/05/proposal-to-conveniently-highlight-and-inspect-styles-in-libreoffice-writer/.

Anyway, the _filter_ for custom styles should integrate into the concept. And in a hierarchical view it has to be shown, maybe grayed out. But I also disagree with a special handling. In particular as Default shouldn't be used at all. It's the mother of all styles and default for text is Text Body (there is another ticket to change this).

So my take: WF.

Totally agree - as long as we are talking about paragraph styles. Yet, for character styles, the "default" style is a special name for "no explicit character style applied; use what is defined on paragraph level". So being actually special and *useful*, it could make sense to *always* show the default *character* style (unless we agree with a proposal elsewhere to add an alternative way to remove all applied character styles to selection).

Of course. And we discussed somewhere else to toggle CS on/off as a solution for this.

One additional suggestion on this train of 'extra' styles to add. If you are in Applied Styles (or somewhere) and create a style, it doesn't appear there, despite the fact that if you create it you probably want to immediately use it; so you have to switch to Custom Styles, then switch back.
My suggestion would be that if you create a style it should switch to the Custom Style list with it highlighted ready to use. (Alternatively it could appear temporarily in the existing list so it can be clicked to use, and if you don't do so within say 120 secs or if you switch lists it should be dropped as an extra showing; I personally prefer this option although it's likely some will think switching to Custom Styles would be more 'proper')

Good point. I would keep newly created custom with the applied styles for the whole (document) session. When closing the document or after reloading it is gone if not used. Ideally you create another ticket for this enhancement.
