Description Andreas Gruhler 2019-12-27 15:11:42 UTC
Description:
In the online implementation (web), hovering the squares when creating a new table from the menu bar on top shows a preview of the new table (dark blue squares).

Similarly, users expect that a drag motion with one finger on iOS can be used to adjust the size of the new table. This however is not possible in the current implementation. Once the first square is selected, the table is created immediately. Trying to apply a drag motion only results in selection of the squares (light blue selection like text selection, see screenshot attached).

It is quite hard to choose the correct size of the table on the first "tap".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a new writer document and tap on the table icon in the menu bar
2. Drag the finger over the table preview to adjust the table size

Actual Results:
1. The squares for the table size preview appears
2. The squares are selectable like text (light blue), not as table size preview (dark blue)

Expected Results:
1. The squares for the table size preview appears
2. The squares are selectable for table size preview (dark blue), not as text (light blue) and the table is only created once the drag motion is complete (i.e., the finger is lifted from the tablet)

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Please find two screenshots attached to contrast the behavior of "light blue" selection on iOS and the desired behavior in the web (dark blue selection with table size preview).

Expected result (screenshot from Collabora Online)

What the users expect when dragging the finger over the squares to preview the table size.

Actual result (screenshot from iOS app)

Currently, dragging the finger over the squares does not allow to preview the size of the new table. The squares are selected as if they were text.

Dear Andreas Gruhler,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa
