Description contestcen 2019-12-29 20:16:35 UTC
As I type, LibreOffice suggests completions to words by popping up a box over part of the text that I am typing. This is never the word I wanted. I find this disruptive because 1) it covers part of the text, 2) it interrupts the rhythm and flow of my typing, 3) I have to interrupt my train of thought in order to read the suggested word, 4) I have to think about how to get rid of the popup box, and 5) it sometimes inserts the suggested word and then I have to delete the unwanted part before I can get back to typing.

I know that I can get rid of the popups by turning off spellcheck, and I sometimes do that, but then I may miss a legitimate warning about an actual spelling error.

Please make the individual spelling and grammar checks optional so a user can check spelling without seeing any popups.

You can disable AutoCorrec in Tools => AutoCorrect => AutoCorrect Options => Word Completion.

Does this solve your problem?

Sorry. I switched to Microsoft Word quite a long time ago. My best recollection is that you can stop the popups by turning off spellcheck, but then you don't have the benefit of catching spelling errors.

The ideal solution would be to keep the spellcheck on, but to be able to turn the word completion prompts off.

That is not what Dieter pointed out in comment 1. Closing
