Description Jim Martin 2020-02-07 09:04:10 UTC
Description:
(IS IT POSSIBLE TO UPLOAD AN LO FILE THAT CONTAINS IMAGES OF THE PROBLEM?)

Version: 6.3.4.2
Build ID: 60da17e045e08f1793c57c00ba83cdfce946d0aa
CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.15.3; UI render: default; VCL: osx;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

Two issues:

1. Calc object formatting distorted (screenshot 1) in Writer copy (text example follows).

Began with LO v. 6.3.4.

2. Incorrect popup message requiring a response appears during insertion operation (see screenshot 2). Only LO Writer and Calc used for create, edit, and save files.

Began with LO v. 6.3 or earlier.

Screenshot 1: original Calc selection (CANNOT UPLOAD SCREENSHOT?)

Screenshot 2: LO Writer popup message (CANNOT UPLOAD SCREENSHOT?)

Steps that create the problems:

Calc:

1. define selection area cells: AW6 : BD16
2. see screenshot 1 (CANNOT UPLOAD SCREENSHOT?)
3. select copy: CTRL-C
4. Cells are selected: crawling selection border appears

Writer:

1. Page style is “Default Style” with no modifications.
2. Paragraph style is “Default style”
    • Style includes: a) no space (0.00”) before; b) no space (0.00”) after; and c) the “Don’t add space between...” button is not checked.
    • Style modified to use Palatino and SongTC (Chinese Song, traditional character) fonts.
3. Dummy text entered is complete lines of “Dummy text. Dummy text.” repeated from beginning to end of line for three full lines, finalized with a CRLF (hard return).

Perform insertion using 2 methods: Place cursor at position 1 in line 2 of dummy text.

Insertion method one

1. Edit → Paste
2. view pop-up message (see screenshot 2) (CANNOT UPLOAD SCREENSHOT?)
3. select “no”
4. results: a) paragraph mark (CRLF) inserted automatically at end of line 1; b) object anchor placed at position 1 of line 2; c) Calc selection inserted
5. CRLF placed at end of line 1, and no space is inserted between first paragraph and second paragraph, both of which are “Default Style.” (CANNOT UPLOAD SCREENSHOT?)

Jim, comment 3 doesn't contain ods-file. So I tried to reproduce it with an own file, but couldn't reproduce the problems:
a) no pop-up message
b) no different results in layout

Version: 6.3.4.2 (x64)
Build-ID: 60da17e045e08f1793c57c00ba83cdfce946d0aa
CPU-Threads: 4; BS: Windows 10.0; UI-Render: Standard; VCL: win;
Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE); UI-Sprache: de-DE
Calc: threaded

A basic rule in Bugzilla is "Only one issue in one bug report". So it would be fine, if you could reduce this report to one problem and use a new report for the second issue.

To be sure, that appearing of the popup message is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) and re-test?

LO Calc .ods file

A followup .ods file to replace file attachment 157910 [details]: LO_test.ods and LO_test.odt. Purpose of the file is to determine if bug 157726 report filed by original reporter is replicable by a user with a known, non-corrpted user profile
Comment 7 Jim Martin 2020-02-16 08:27:53 UTC
Restarted LibreOffice in safe mode. Created new .ods and new .odt files. Entered information into Calc cells. Applied bold and border formatting. Selected cells. Copied selected cells to Writer using 2 methods:

1.  Edit → Paste special --> Paste Special → LibreOffice 6.3 Spreadsheet → OK.

and

2. Ctrl-v (Mac OSX Cmd-V).

Results:

1. The format problem replicated using both methods.

and

2. The popup LO information message described in report 157726 "This file was created in a different version..." that appears in not-safe mode _did_not_appear_ in safe mode.

Cannot submit files created for this safe mode test; attempted to save both files. No LO dialog requesting name & location appeared. Used Mac OS HD search utility to locate folder to which these files saved. No results. Assume files either a) not saved, or b) saved using file names not assigned by the user and therefore unknown.

If it doesn't appear in safe mode, it's not a bug, but a corruption of your user profile. Please refresh you user profile.

LO_test_3.odt test file. Result of copy - paste special operation demonstrating problem

This comment applies to 3 attachments. First is LO_test_3.odt. Second is LO_test_3.ods. Third is LO_test_information_message.png.

I apologize for uploading multiple files separately. I do not know whether it is possible to upload multiple attachments as one batch of files.

The procedure I followed reproduced exactly the 2 conditions described in the original bug report. The steps followed were:

1. Restart LO:6.3.4.2 in safe mode.
2. Choose the instruction to reset user profile.
3. Quit LO.

4. Restart LO in normal mode.
5. Create Writer file LO_test_3.odt
6. Create Calc file LO_test_3.ods (see next attachment)
7. Select Calc cells for copy operation.
8. Switch to Writer.
9. Copy Calc object using Edit-->Paste special-->Paste special-->LO 6.3 spreadsheet-->OK.
10. Screen displayed the information/decision popup (see subsequent attachment).
11. Select "Yes" (do proceed with recalculation this instance only).
10. The Calc cells with distorted format appeared.

Conclusions:
1. Restarting in Safe Mode and selecting reset user profile option did not solve the problem upon subsequent restarts in normal mode.
2. The 2 issues raised in the original bug report are related and therefore constitute a single issue.

Comment 14 Alex Thurgood 2020-02-18 10:02:27 UTC
I'm afraid this bug report is a little bit hard to read, so I might have tested incorrectly.

1) I downloaded LO_test_3.odt and LO_test_3.ods.
2) Opened both in

Version: 6.4.0.0.beta1
Build ID: 4d7e5b0c40ed843384704eca3ce21981d4e98920
Threads CPU : 4; OS : Mac OS X 10.15.3; UI Render : par défaut; VCL: osx;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Langue IHM : fr-FR
Calc: threaded

3) Selected a range of cells containing values in the Calc sheet and then Cmd-V

4) Switched to Writer document, then Paste > Paste Special > LO Calc sheet at some random point on the page

5) Observed the result.

6) The paste special operation into Writer did not produce an error message.

By default, the inserted object is incorrectly displayed with black overlay over at least some of the content instead of displaying the complete grid and associated values. Is that the issue that is being reported here ? If so, I can confirm.

I can't confirm any error message.

Mr. Thurgood,

You correctly describe the bug I reported. The problem became apparent using
Version 6.3.4.2. You report using Version 6.4.0.0.beta1.

1. The formatting of the copied cells is indeed not correct using v6.4.0.0.beta1.

My comment: The bug leading to the distorted formatting still exists in Version 6.4.0.0.beta1

2. The information message I uploaded in LO_test_3_information_message.png did not appear.

My comment: Absent information about any work on this second issue, I speculate but do not conclude that this issue has been resolved in the transition from 6.3.4.2 to 6.4.0.0.beta1.

Thank you for your work.

Ok. If I read the previous comment right, the popup issue is gone.

What remains is a formatting issue. I tested the "LO_test_3.ods" file on macOS and Linux and at least the font color formatting is not preserved

Steps to reproduce:
 * Open Calc test file
 * Select table and copy
 * Open new Writer document
 * Paste Special as LO Spreadsheet
 * Observe that the green and blue text is now black

I tried to check for duplicates, but couldn't immediately find this

Repro 7.4+. But I don't know where the blue color comes from?
Normal direct formatting like color is copied, just this blue is not.

Test is simple, no need for specific ODT, just copy from ODS to new ODT as Calc.
But it must first be clear about the blue. It didn't appear in old LO 4.
Comment 21 Timur 2022-05-04 13:48:44 UTC
I changed this to Needinfo for a reporter to explain the source of blue text.
It's something about table styles, but they don't seem present in ODS.
So far, this seems like Invalid sample.
