When sorting a table, the default sort order is 'from left to right(columns)'.
With the result, that when you enter the sort criteria, you basically see the content of the first column (which is at least confusing)....
Can we change this to 'from top to bottom (row sorting)' as this is what people mostly do...

I have reduced the severity of the bug to "enhancement."

Cannot confirm, both 6.3 as well as 7.0 have "Top to bottom" as default.

Currently using 6.4.4.2 on openSUSE, here the sort order is from top to bottom.
The below example (comment #1) was taken from an earlier release on Windows. 
In case no one else can confirm, we should close it as WFM (and be happy that it works as expected9
