Description:
macOS 10.15.3

Version: 6.4.0.3
Build ID: b0a288ab3d2d4774cb44b62f04d5d28733ac6df8
CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.15.3; UI render: default; VCL: osx;
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

Version: 7.0.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 4caa7b790cf99eebbe47fc2e6a56124c42f1f3fc
CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.15.3; UI render: default; VCL: osx;
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

The save as dialog has no option to "Hide file suffix". Unsure when this problem was introduced. Obviously a regression as the old bug exists claiming the functionality was fixed.

There was a previous bug where LO ignored that option and that was fixed:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119316

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open LO and create any new document
2. shift cmd s to save as
3. look at dialog

Actual Results:
No option to "Hide file suffix".

Expected Results:
Option should be shown.

Reproducible: Always

I still see that option in

Version: 6.3.4.2
Build ID: 60da17e045e08f1793c57c00ba83cdfce946d0aa
Threads CPU : 4; OS : Mac OS X 10.15.3; UI Render : par défaut; VCL: osx;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Langue IHM : fr-FR
Calc: threaded

and in

Version: 6.4.0.0.beta1
Build ID: 4d7e5b0c40ed843384704eca3ce21981d4e98920
Threads CPU : 4; OS : Mac OS X 10.15.3; UI Render : par défaut; VCL: osx;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Langue IHM : fr-FR

I don't see that option either to hide the file suffix.

But what would that option do? I don't see it Word or Pages either

There's no that option in 6.3.4.2 and 7.0.0.0.alpha0+. and I never recognize that option :)

@Alex: this is most interesting. You are still seeing the option on 10.15.3 + 6.3.4.2.

I tested that build, but I am not seeing it. Also 10.15.3. Screenshot attached.

Comment 7 steve 2020-02-19 11:07:47 UTC
@eisa: that option saves a file and sets the "hide file suffix" flag. You can find that setting if you select any file in finder app then press ⌘I and look at the Name & Suffix section. There is the option to hide the suffix. Some users prefer to set that flag as default when they save a new file.
Comment 8 Alex Thurgood 2020-02-19 11:41:22 UTC
@Steve : I think I might have got the wrong end of the stick here.

I looked at your first screenshot and assumed that the option tick box you were referring to was the one you indicated was now missing, but I see that this is the automatic file extension option tickbox (which is still there).

If so, then we see the same thing and I can confirm this bug report.

From what I recall, the hide extension tickbox was removed when the LOdevs removed LO builtin file dialog support to only rely on Finder dialogs. That was a while ago already.
Comment 9 steve 2020-02-19 22:05:47 UTC
While I prefer to have my files with suffix hidden by default, I respect the LO dev design decision and since the option will probably not be coming back, closing as WONTFIX.

If you disagree or I am mistake please re-open.
