Description Nils 2020-02-20 11:06:40 UTC
Description:
While Starting SOffice.exe, I see the splash screen for a short moment and after that, I see an empty window, which hangs. No reaction.

Today I reinstalled my Windows 10 and installed all latest update.

I'm using LibreOffice LibreOffice_6.4.0.3 (Windows 64 bit).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just call SOffice.exe

Actual Results:
Nothing happens, I have to close the opened window with Windows features.

Expected Results:
Open LibreOffice, that I can use it.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Yesterday, all worked fine with LibreOffice_6.3.2_Win_x64.

If I try to start SOffice.exe --safe-mode, tested all options to solve the problem - without luck. But I can run it in the safe mode.
Comment 1 Nils 2020-02-20 11:09:37 UTC
If I install version 6.3.2, like worked yesterday on the same hardware, it hangs too.

The hardware is the same like yesterday.
Comment 2 Julien Nabet 2020-02-20 13:46:52 UTC
Did you installed Java 64 bits?
Comment 3 Nils 2020-02-20 14:01:31 UTC
Yes, Java Version 8 Update 211 (Build 1.8.0_211-b11)

Filename: jre-8u221-windows-x64.exe, so I believe it's 64 bit.
Comment 4 Julien Nabet 2020-02-20 14:10:34 UTC
Ok so you're on Win 64 bits with LO 64 bits and Java 64 bits.
This part is ok then.

Since it's an install from scratch, it's not related to LO profile.
Perhaps it may be related to OpenGL, could you give a try at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Graphics-related_issues_.28OpenGL.29 ?
Comment 5 Nils 2020-02-20 14:24:29 UTC
After starting SOffice.exe --safe-mode, there is a checkbox for using OpenGL. I tested that before I posted this bug already.
Comment 6 Julien Nabet 2020-02-20 14:30:39 UTC
Ok then.
I must recognize I'm stuck but I suppose other people will have some good ideas.
Comment 7 Nils 2020-02-21 16:00:01 UTC
To find a solution, I deleted Windows and re-installed it complete new. After that, the very first installation were Java an LibreOffice. But I still can't launch it in the normal mode - only the safe mode works.
Comment 8 Nils 2020-03-13 11:03:16 UTC
I tested further more.

Right now I found a way to start SOffice.exe without "--safe-mode". To do this, I need the file registrymodifications.xcu with the following content:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<oor:items xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Misc"><prop oor:name="SelectedOpenCLDeviceIdentifier" oor:op="fuse"><value>Intel(R) Corporation 1.1--6.3.2.2--1556963808</value></prop></item>
</oor:items>

Since I need this, removing the user profile or resetting to factory settings does not work.

For me, this problem is solved, I know how to use LibreOffice as well. But imho, this problem is a bug in LibreOffice and should be fixed.
Comment 9 Julien Nabet 2020-03-13 11:10:03 UTC
Could you give a try to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps, OpenCL part?

Also, did you check your Windows and graphic drivers are up-to-date?

Requested opengl_device.log

I disabled OpenCL like requested here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Graphics-related_issues_.28OpenGL.29

With this, SOffice.exe starts without problem too.

But I tried to deactivate the hardware escalerator by using the --safe-mode parameter before. That didn't work.

Seems there are multiple problems with LibreOffice, which should be fixed by the developer.
Comment 11 Nils 2020-03-13 13:40:43 UTC
The graphic driver is the latest update, got from the Windows Update. The manufactur of the computer (Apple MacBook Pro 2012) does not offer a driver for Windows 10.

Possibly or a pb in OpenCL too? Also, I noticed this in your attachment:
DriverDate: 10-31-2013
No update since 2013?
Comment 13 Nils 2020-03-13 14:08:20 UTC
Yes: No further update.

The notebook is an Apple MacBook Pro, designed for macOS, not for Windows. It's official supported by Apple for Windows 7, but not for Windows 10.

Independent of the graphic driver, no program should hang at all. A right solution would be an error message, that the driver is not supported or it should be handled automatically.

Could you attach your opencl_devices.log as well?

Hello Nils,
Is this issue still reproducible with the latest version of LibreOffice from
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to

Hi, I have the same issue. Meanwhile I can say that both installed and portable versions hang on start with "Not responding", nothing helps.
It happens in all versions I tries - from 6 and until nightly builds. But after some time, probably next day it starts to work.

I'm ready to provide all needed info and assistance. So feel free ask me any question and help to resolve the issue.
