Description tom1williams 2020-02-23 09:13:48 UTC
Description:
"Copy" and "paste special - number" is not working correctly between two xlsx formatted spreadsheets - it requires multiple copy commands to work. This also happens when copying from webpages which I view in Firefox and using "paste special - unformatted text". It is very inconvenient to have to issue the copy command several times until it finally works. Sometimes it even turns the cell being copied's contents into an image!

Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on a cell with numbers in the source spreadsheet and do "copy"
2.go to the target spreadsheet - click on a cell and do "paste special - number"
3.it does not work until you return to the source spreadsheet and do copy once or twice more and then repeat step 2

Actual Results:
the "paste special - number" and "paste special - unformatted text" commands did not work

Expected Results:
both the "paste special - number" and "paste special - unformatted text" commands should have worked after copying the contents of a cell in the source spreadsheet or a number from a webpage.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
This may have began when I went to Ubuntu 19.10 I am not sure if in happened under 19.04 or not. It has happened under both LO 6.3.3.4 and LO 6.4.0.3. I use Ubuntu with Gnome exactly as it ships. I upgraded to LO 6.4.0.3 hoping it would solve this problem but it did not.

a spreadsheet created in LO Calc but saved in xlsx format

This problem of needing to "copy" multiple times before a "paste special" will work also happens with data copied from a webpage viewed via Firefox and being pasted with "paste special - unformatted text"

I think these people are having the same problem I am having. It is a great hindrance to getting work done! But I understand now that it may not be a bug in LO but rather a bug in something called mutter. I still don't understand when it will be fixed however. Do I have to wait and hope it is fixed in Ubuntu 20.04? https://askubuntu.com/questions/1188960/copy-and-paste-issue-with-ubuntu-19-10?r=SearchResults#

Rule of thumb is search before reporting. Did you check bug 65606 and bug 99818 and bug 128803?
"Reproducible: Sometimes" makes no sense to confirm from a single user.
I tried once and didn't reproduce.
This looks like a duplicate of bug 99818. Do you object to that?

Also bug 57147.

Thank you for your attention to my bug report. Please mark my bug report as a duplicate of 128803 but not of any of those other much earlier bugs. I never had this problem until I was using the versions of GNOME and mutter that ship in Ubuntu 19.10. My work-around was to install XFCE4 from the Ubuntu repository and when I log into an XFCE session instead of GNOME all of the problems disappeared completely. With no 'mutter' there was no problem. I think according to the print screens I attached to this report that the people who support mutter have this as a high severity bug.

Bug 128803 is paste as image, but I'll do as you propose.
As long as it's duplicate, and all are listed, it's not so important.
More important would be to resolve some of these.

Bug 128803 did a better job of describing and diagnosing my problem than I did. My pastes come out as an image too, or when I say "paste Special - number" it does not paste anything because the data I copied was stored as an image. The other more important observation is that the copy works correctly every second time. That observation was made here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1852183 and https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/919
