Description Will 2020-04-20 13:33:36 UTC
Description:
Some people want documents to open at a particular zoom/view, regardless of the setting in the document they are opening. Writer does not currently allow this (insofar as I have been able to find).

This may be more true for people who do not have large screens and/or have poor eyesight.

This may not technically be a bug but its omission is quite annoying.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a document you have not created.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
The document opens according to the preferences of the person who created the document.

Expected Results:
The document should open according to the preferences of the person who is opening the document and will be the one reading it.

Reproducible: Always

I also couldn't find that option, but I can imagine that it would be useful. Perhaps there could be an option "Set as default" in the "Zoom & View Layout" dialog

No objection from the design team. Tools > Options > Writer > View would be a good place for "[ ] Override document zoom level [100 % +/-]" (the checkbox is off by default making the spin edit below and indented disabled).

Very good idea.

Could this be implemented for other programs as well, couldn't it?

I come across this same problem in Calc when opening spreadsheets from elsewhere. This causes me problems several times a day! So yes, this isn't just a Writer problem - can someone change the Component?

The question has been raised again but so far it doesn't look like there is any interest in fixing it:

This seems like an accessibility issue.

I understand why the default behavior is to respect the settings of the saved document, but not everyone is viewing every document on the same equipment and with the same visual ability. There should be an option for users to set a default and ignore the document settings. It should also be considered that if one chooses to load ignoring the saved zoom level for the document, it shouldn't necessarily save that data if the user edits the document and saves it again.
