Description: I contacted your twitter and they told me to write this here. I recently used your software to write and format (etc) my first published book (Demon Ring, on Amazon). I've used Libreoffice for a long time before this. When I was younger, I used to be able to remember every small detail of a world I would create and everyone and everything in it, like second nature. I didn't have to worry about forgetting any little detail. However, these years, I discovered that's not the case anymore. As I wrote, I kept asking myself questions about details I had forgotten, and realized there was a feature that LibreOffice didn't have, that I desperately needed: the ability to open a side panel, and be able to add a small writing area there, for a quick note that would stay in that side panel and save with the document. (not print with, just be there whenever I opened the document) And, the ability to add new "scraps of paper" to add notes to, remove if needed, and scroll through them all. Thanks again for making a great program! Actual Results: Just have to use some external program it sheets of paper and a pen, as it stands now. Expected Results: n/a Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: writing from my phone, so I don't have the help-about LibreOffice on front of me.
Josdph, thanks fo your idea. Please explain, why the comment feature is not sufficient for you. => NEEDIMFO
Comments could work, if they were unanchored and scrollable on their own. The comment feature didn't work for me in this particular instance, because if there's a detail of interaction I want to reference 50-100+ pages later, I still have to scroll up through all those pages and hunt for where the comment is anchored. Instead if I had an independent list of a handful of comments, I could easily see. For example, "oh, these characters already talked about that." With how forgetful I'm becoming, having that independent list of notes and events would be so helpful. I can't count how many times I went to hunt for details I've forgotten and wrote something I already wrote once before, then have my proof reader come down on me. I suppose that would be the simplest way to do it: unanchored comments that could be scrolled on their own. Thanks again for the great program!
Thanks for explanation. So let's ask Design-Team for further input and decision. Personally I still don't see the need for such a feature. Advantage of coments: They are searchable and you can insert a hyperlink to a heading within the text.
(In reply to Joseph Cottrell from comment #0) > I recently used your software... Open source! It's _our_ software. A special deck for notes sounds like a nice enhancement. However, I would rather realize it via user extension as it's not a primary use case and many tools provide the functionality.
Fair enough. Thanks for the consideration, at least. Sadly, I've never been able to teach myself to program, so I'll have to wait until someone else is kind-enough to make the extension. Thanks again, guys!
Sure, but done as an Extension to provide a Sidebar deck for note taking and text scraps. => NEW
