Description kklmn 2020-05-07 13:30:23 UTC
Description:
Hello,

Note: the solution to the problem is at the end of this message.
System: W10 Home, 1909.

With a previous version of LO (sorry, I don't know it now, it has been reinstalled) I tried to open the Format/Page dialog. It didn't open but only displayed a wait cursor.

In trying to solve it, I installed LO 6.4.3. It didn't start at all. Again, only a wait cursor.

I removed it and installed 6.3.6 that is also currently available to download. It could start. It could display the page format dialog. But it could not open the print dialog. I exported to pdf but Acrobat couldn't print either. I've reinstalled my network printer, could print from Acrobat AND from LO 6.3.6.

Then reinstalled the 6.4.3. Now it starts and I can open both "Page Style" and "Print" dialogs.

So, a faulty printer device hangs a) the page format dialog, b) the print dialog and c) the start of LO 6.4.3, which I think in all 3 cases is a clear bug.

Otherwise, thanks for a nice Office bundle that is getting better and better!

Cheers,
Konstantin

Steps to Reproduce:
1. You need a faulty printer driver

3.

Actual Results:
A faulty printer device hangs a) the page format dialog, b) the print dialog and c) the start of LO 6.4.3

Hi, your printer is a network printer or a local one?
Comment 2 kklmn 2020-09-22 20:50:59 UTC
It is a LAN printer, never tried it with a USB one.

I've had problems with some printer drivers that corrupt workstations far more often than other printers (or versions of that print driver). I've had this problem most of all with HP UPD and I've had the best luck with HP UPD 5.5, so much so that it's my way to the driver when it's available for a printer (have a look at https://printerhow.com for more details). If the print driver is the case, look at a different version on your print server once you narrow it down to which print driver is corrupted.

Do you have the same symptoms with another user? How about a local non-domain admin? Is that Windows 7,8,10? Try to remove the network printers from the registry? Stop printing the spooler and open the D&P, then start the spooler?

It could be a crazy corrupt print driver if you can open D&P with another user by uninstalling all printers, deleting all print drivers, rebooting and logging in with a domain user who could not open it before.
