Description torsten 2020-05-18 06:11:46 UTC
Description:
I am a fast typist, and occasionally when I am typing too quickly my cursor (the vertical bar) types what I just typed before typing what I had typed previously. For example,
A.
the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
            |point of lag
B.
the quick br fownox jumps over the lazy dog
            |point of lag
where A is what I type and B is what appears on the screen. In a perfect world no lag exists at all, but if there must be lag then the characters should be inputted in the correct order. Depending on how fast I type (I average at about 40-50 wpm) It happens for 50% to 75% of all words that I type.

After some investigation, it appears that this is a bug with the tabbed user interface. No lag occurs in the standard toolbar user interface.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. enable tabbed user interface in writer.
2. Start typing.
3.

Actual Results:
Word come out jumbled. here is a real selection from what I was typing.
"It is good fro expostiory wirting, where the mian goal i nsot t oconvnice smoeone of smoehtign or t oinfulenc esomoene’s opiinonso r eomtions, but rate hrto just tell tehm exactly..."

Expected Results:
I expected the words to come out in the right order. Here is what I was expecting to be outputted:
"It is good for expository writing, where the main goal is not to convince someone of something or to influence someone's opinions or emotions, but rather to just tell them exactly..."

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Version: 6.4.3.2
Build ID: 1:6.4.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-NZ (en_NZ.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

Resetting the UserProfile did fix it, after I saw that option in the bug report it stopped lagging. It appears that it was that I had the tabbed user interface enabled, and that was lagging it and causing the typos.

I am experiencing the same issue not only in Writer, but also in Calc.

Whenever the Tabbed UI is enabled typing feels really slow compared to the Standard Toolbar UI.

As described by the OP the vertical bar is lagging behind, but I haven't yet seen that characters appear in a wrong order. (I'm not the fastest typist)

In Calc there also happens to be a lag when switching to another cell with pressing [Enter] or [Tab], which is to some extent annoying.

Dear torsten,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
