Description David 2020-05-24 00:19:15 UTC
I've been using LibreOffice Draw since its first releases and there is one bug that continually annoys me and which seemingly never gets fixed--freezes during file saving.

It affects almost every version of LibreOffice Draw, including 6.4.4.2 which I am currently using.

I am using Xubuntu 20.04 LTS but it has also affected every other LTS version I have used.

- It is not a "feature" as so many people here try to offer.
- Starting with a new profile does not fix the problem.
- Using the "official" Ubuntu repo version does not fix the problem.
- Using the latest "Snap" version does not fix the version.
- Using the latest LibreOffice deb release does not fix the problem.
- It can affect any document, whether simple or complex.

The problem is that sometimes LibreOffice completely freezes. It can take 2-5 minutes for the save to complete and the application to continue working again. Sometimes it can completely freeze the operating system requiring a cold restart (and losing the changes in the document i.e. the save was not successful).

The behaviour is somewhat random. You can save a document and it completes the task instantly. Then you can change a word in a sentence and it saves properly again. Change another word and try to save and it freezes. It is like some sort of race condition where the save operation cannot be completed.

A search on Google will show the same bug affects the other applications in the suite.

I don't want people to tell me to do the same things we have all tried. I don't want to be flamed by LO fanboys either. LibreOffice Draw is an awesome application and I use it everyday for work and fun. But this is a serious bug and it is so annoying that I consider giving up and returning to Scribus or setting up a virtual windows environment just to go back to Microsoft Publisher.

It's a long standing bug that needs sorting out.

Thanks.

Thanks for the report. And sorry for being send into the dark..

The issue sounds really hard to reproduce.. So some awful questions, sorry
* Or there multiple (large) documents open.
* How often do you save until it kicks in
* Can happen within 2 minutes after launch..
* How large is the document you're working on..
* Could you give an example file.. even if it not really matters.. currently it's make an edit = save
