Description: I propose to change the naming of the "Page style" dialog (opened via Menu → Format → Page ) I'd like the people in charge to think about each renaming individually. Actual Results: Expected Results: Current name | Suggested name ---------------|-------------------- - Organizer | - Page | Page Layout - Area | Background - Transparency | Background transparency OR Background Effects - Header | - Footer | - Borders | - Columns | - Footnote | Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Reasons for this Enhancement request. - I think the names do not sufficiently / clearly express what exactly their content is. - Regarding tab "Page": When you come from Menu->Format->Page and the "Page" tab opens, it looks like (to me) as if the other tabs are not Page style-related anymore. Eg. it seems as if a Menu->Format->Footnote (note: does not exist; only an example) would open the same dialog on tab "Footnote".
Background might be more correct than Area but takes more space (same for Page Layout) and requires to change this label on all similar dialogs, for instance paragraph style.
We discussed this topic in the design meeting. I have concerns about the long names that might lead to tab overflow and the missing consistency for Area -> Background. We use right now Highlight in case of character style and Area for shapes and paragraph style. But there was also acceptance for Page -> Page Layout and Area -> Background, which it's more precise.
Thank you for discussing! As of my understanding, we're kind of stuck between
- we want better names. and - better names are too long. tbh, I have had the same concerns. I was hoping someone would come up with some kind of magical solution. Maybe "Page layout" could be reduced to "Layout"... How shall we treat the bug for the moment?
Page Layout or Layout is fine for me. I'm more concerned about the Area -> Background transition.
Other languages also have long terms. Why should this be a problem for English?
(In reply to Thomas Lendo from comment #6) > Other languages also have long terms. Why should this be a problem for > English? Good point. German translation is already "Hintergrund". Perhaps it's similar in other languages and there won't be much change "Layout" instead of "Page" is also fine for me; I won't name it "Page Layout", because - to be consistent - it should also be "Page Transparency", "Page background", ... which is redundant, if the dialog is named "Page Style"
Is there a consent for renaming and to what?
(In reply to Thomas Lendo from comment #8) > Is there a consent for renaming and to what? The idea was accepted in the design meeting. The one who implements decides, hopefully based on feedback given in this thread, and s/he is always right. Actually I hope DarkTrick will do patch.
DarkTrick is kinda busy for a little while. But I tagged it for me. If you leave it open long enough, I will get back to it.
