Description Clarc 2020-07-24 16:19:25 UTC
Description:
(all of this happens in Linux Mint)

When installing LibreOffice, not only Writer, Calc, Draw, etc. are created, but TWO general shortcuts that do different things. (see attatchment)

And both of them often act in weird ways.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install LibreOffice on Linux Mint via the software manager (Flatpack, the normal version might work the same way.)
2. Press your Windows/Super key to get to the search.
3. Search for LibreOffice

Actual Results:
Clicking on the "LibreOffice (Flatpack)"-icon sometimes loads LibreOffice and that screen where you can choose whether you want a Writer, Calc, Draw, etc. document or use templates. And sometimes it shows the loading picture with an advancing progress-bar, that then just disappears, without starting the software.
Clicking on "LibreOffice" never triggers the loading-picture. Sometimes it does nothing. Sometimes a similar version of the screen that "LibreOffice (Flatpack)" uses gets opened... it doesn't function properly though. What do I mean?
1. Writer, Calc, Draw, etc are greyed out and can't be started from this screen.
2. Templates don't work properly.

Expected Results:
There should probably only be one of those LibreOffice-icons and it should work properly.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Please explain, Mint comes with LO, what did you do with that one?
Why would you install Flatpack?
Why didn't you remove pre installed LO and added PPA for LO 6.4?

Hey, I'm the original poster... I can't find my account details anymore though, so i'm answering using this temporary accout.

> Please explain, Mint comes with LO, what did you do with that one?
I uninstalled it before installing the Flatpack.

> Why would you install Flatpack?
From my limited understanding of Linux Mint, Flatpacks (that can also be found in the Software Manager, just like PPA's) are pretty much like PPA's, just more up-to-date. And I like up-to-date software. :)

> Why didn't you remove pre installed LO and added PPA for LO 6.4?
I did remove the pre-installed LO. I didn't add a new PPA for LO 6.4 because, according to what I was told, it's best to stick to the default repositories and use them.
Which is why I used the Flatpack.
1. Up to date.
2. It's one of the things in the software manager. No external packages, that might be dangerous, involved.

Then maybe not completely. I suggest you to look at your package manager (e.g. Synaptic), to make sure there are no libreoffice-* packages installed. There are also other LO packages that you might want to remove like ure, libuno-*, libridl-java. You can verify that the Mint LO version was indeed fully removed, by checking that the /usr/lib/libreoffice dir no longer exists.

I tried it and you were correct. It didn't uninstall properly. After following your steps, there's just one of those general-LO-launchers!
Thank you!

Should I close this issue or does somebody else do it?
