Description: Viewing "IDRAC" written in Liberation Serif (10.5pt) at 100% zoom (Windows 10, 24" FHD LCD screen), it looks as if there's a space between "a" AND "C" (see attachment). Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use "Liberation Serif" font at 10.5pt size, zoom level 100% 2. Write "DRAC" Actual Results: Spacing between letters seems irregular Expected Results: Spacing between letters should look equally distributed Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: The issue is less visible in Linux

Created attachment 168574 [details] Screenshot with zoom 100% Attachment shows result with Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) Build ID: 315c7570c4a72f4c834086082825533b1e50d1bf CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: threaded There seems to be less space between 'RA' than between 'DR' and 'AC', but it's not the same result as in comment 0.
Trying different zoom levels, the effect seemed to be most visible at 100% zoom.
No repro with 100% zoom. Maybe try with 7.2. Version: 7.3.0.0.alpha1+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 515682539623c9d61921c4f89302ffa0a4cb8d24 CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Set to NEEDINFO. Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.
I guess this should be gone in the latest master build. A large bunch of those issues are addressed.. The full line in the specific document is needed.. https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html

Created attachment 181852 [details] Partial screen shot (Writer, showing "kernel" in italics) Maybe the Liberation Serif font has an issue (10,5pt, italic) at 100% zoom: The word "kernel" looks very much like "kemel". Seen in Libreoffice 7.2.7.2 (x86) on Windows 10 20H2 (Build 19042.1826).
(In reply to Ulrich Windl from comment #8) > Maybe the Liberation Serif font has an issue (10,5pt, italic) at 100% zoom: Sorry the heading is 11,8pt; the body text is 10,5pt.

As Telesto mentioned in January, could you try with a master build as there were many fixes? Win-x86_64@tb77-TDF from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html

Created attachment 181878 [details] Partial screen shot (MS-Word, showing "kernel" in italics) It seems to be a font issue as Microsoft Word displays the same text in a very similar way (on the same machine).

"kernel" in screenshot from Word (comment 13) looks better than from LO in comment 8. But with Version: 7.4.0.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: f85e47c08ddd19c015c0114a68350214f7066f5a CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL I get a similar result as in word and I won't consider this as a bug. Steps: 1. Write "kernel" with 11,8pt, old and italic
Thanks for testing, Ulrich and Dieter. Let's close. Caolán is working on more improvements to kerning across the whole suite.
So I guess Writer cannot do much better with the 'r'-'n'-pair. Same is probably true for the 'A'-'C'-pair.
(In reply to Ulrich Windl from comment #17) > So I guess Writer cannot do much better with the 'r'-'n'-pair. Same is > probably true for the 'A'-'C'-pair. You changed the status to unconfirmed. Are you still arguing that there is a bug or was it a mistake?
(In reply to Buovjaga from comment #18) > You changed the status to unconfirmed. Are you still arguing that there is a > bug or was it a mistake? Actually it was an update conflict with comment #16: I wanted to add the comment, but forgot about the status change. Please adjust as you think it's correct!
