Sample DOCX from MSO

This bug is about table title when reading and saving DOCX.
(normally open and save are different bug, but let's first see what happens here).

Attached is MSO DOCX with table that has Alt Text for table and description.
Since LO doesn't have separate field for table Alt Text, it should either:
1. add field for table Alt Text
2. open DOCX table Alt Text as table title
Similar with save.

Problem doesn'r refer to DOC as explained in bug 48882.

Please explain what you expect. Guess a field for the alternative text that might be send to the caption right now. Is there room in the ODF format, what purpose has this field (beyond HTML editing), why not just ignore.
Comment 2 Timur 2020-09-17 08:59:40 UTC
Alt Text is accessibility issue. If we don't read or save to DOCX that's data loss.

I thought of 2 possibilities:
1. change UI for table Options to add field for table Alt Text, like in Image - Options or Chart - Options OR
2. simply open DOCX table Alt Text as table Title and save ODT table Title as Alt Text, which is more simple but not consistent approach.

Can't say for ODF, couudn't find in standard, but it must be there, like for images or chart.

table:title and table:desc sounds like it:
https://docs.oasis-open.org/office/OpenDocument/v1.3/cs01/part3-schema/OpenDocument-v1.3-cs01-part3-schema.html#__RefHeading__1415608_253892949

Also note that the Table Properties dialog Table tab Name field outputs table:name tag into ODF so I think that UI field is not for the same role as these.

Confirming that alternative text of the table in attachment #165610 [details] is lost on a Writer roundtrip.

Table names are used in the Navigator like in case of images and charts. So the alternative text needs a dedicated field and I agree with the same congruence to image and chart below the name.

DOCX created with Office 365

For another example file, I created a DOCX with Office 365, and used the table's "Alt Text" dialogue, which has a "Title" field and a "Description" field.
The file has values for both, to test if LO keeps that information anywhere.
Comment 6 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2021-06-29 04:28:09 UTC
Reproduced with:

Version: 7.3.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: f446a203fa2897bab8ae7686c948a8bf060675c6
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 4.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2021-06-24_15:16:38
Calc: threaded

With Attachment 173260 [details], LO Writer does not expose the "Alt Text Title" value, nor the "Alt Text Description" value.

Adding Accessibility meta bug.

Dear Timur,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
