Description: On Windows 7 x64, LibreOffice 7.0.1 (it did the same with LibreOffice 6.4.6). I launch ...\LibreOffice\program\soffice.exe to start the LibreOffice suite. Most of the times, when the internet connection is off, LibreOffice freezes for about 6 seconds after launch (On very few occasions the freeze lasts about 30 seconds). After that, it becomes responsive and the hourglass mouse cursor disappears. Once I closed the internet connection during startup and Libreoffce froze - was “not Responding” for 1 to 2 minutes. When the internet connection is on, the program is instantly responsive after launch. (My firewall settings are not important in this case because the problems appears when the internet connection is off.) I tested the portable versions, too with the same result. I also used the default settings, no even the recent documents were populated and the tooltips were on. The freeze happens if you directly start the individual components too, for example writer or calc. In this case you get the splash screen for the component and the freeze happens and after the 6 seconds freeze the component opens immediately. Please try to fix the freeze problem when the internet connection is down. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Disable the Internet Connection 2. Launch LibreOffice 3. Wait for the UI to become responsive 4. Enable to the Internet Connection 5. Launch LibreOffice or a component 6. Observe the difference in the startup time between the 2 cases Actual Results: LibreOffice freezes for about 6 seconds when Internet Connection is off. Expected Results: LibreOffice UI should not freeze and behave just like in the case when the Internet Connection is on. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes OpenGL enabled: Yes Additional Info: Tested on: Windows 7 x64, LibreOffice 7.0.1 (it did the same with LibreOffice 6.4.6). I tested the portable versions, too with the same result. I also used the default settings, no even the recent documents were populated and the tooltips were on. The only thing that was changed was the internet connection status (enabled vs. disabled)
I use a PPPOE connection
The freeze happens if the "Check fro Updates" settings are enabled and it happens if they are disabled, too.
I disabled some settings for the main LibreOffice branch in Tools > Options > LibreOffice - The settings on top of Load/Save Settings and the startup freeze is gone (I verified a couple of times and it seems to work From What I Can Tell). I have to narrow down the problem settings and see what are the ones that cause this by comparing with the default LibreOffice settings.
I was wrong in the previous comment. Sometimes when the Internet Connection is off the program doesn't freeze at startup, but if I connect and disconnect again and start over by launching the LibreOffice Suite or one of its components, the startup freeze reappears.
LibreOffice 7.1.0 has the bug, too.
Thank you for reporting the bug. To be certain the reported issue is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and re-test? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present
Sure. I'll test any setup you want, just tell me. I tried different versions, like LibreOffice v6 and v7, even portable versions with default or custom settings and the freeze happened to all of them, pretty regularly, almost at every startup.
I Tested LibreOffice on PCLinuxOS 2020 with LibreOffice 6.4 and the freeze doesn't happen. On Windows 7 x64 SP1: I deleted the profile from %APPDATA%\libreoffice\ I installed LibreOffice 7.0.4.2 (LibreOffice_7.0.4_Win_x64.msi). I used the default installation settings (Typical installation). I created and saved a file as .xls - for example, I just write text in 1 or 2 cells, it's just for testing. I zoomed in and saved it as .xls I did the same for an .ods file I just double clicked the .xls or .ods file to open LibreOffice Calc. I connect and disconnect from the internet (using a PPPOE username and password), open the files and see how long it takes to open LibreOffice and the file. I check if LibreOffice freezes - it takes far too much time to start. I then close the file (any LibreOffice component is closed automatically) and test some more. I just open the file and close the file: I started testing; for every test I'll give you the seconds needed for LibreOffice to start: I'm offline 1min 42 sec ......................... long freeze 6 sec 6 sec .ods 13 sec xls 6 sec 6 sec 6 sec ods 6 sec xls 6 sec connect to internet: xls start fast (1-2 sec) xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec ods start fast 1 sec ods start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec disconnect xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec ods long freeze about 1 min 45 sec ......................... long freeze xls start fast 1 sec ......................... outliers (disconnected but fast start) xls start fast 1 sec ods start fast 1 sec ods start fast 1 sec ods start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec connect ods start fast 1 sec ods start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec disconnect xls 6 sec 6 sec 6 sec ods 6 sec 6 sec 6 sec xls 6 sec connect ods start fast 1 sec disconnect xls 1 min 43 sec ......................... long freeze connect xls start fast 1 sec disconnect ods 6 sec xls 6 sec connect ods start fast 1 sec disconnect ods 6 sec xls 6 sec xls 6 sec connect xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec disconnect xls start fast 1 sec ......................... outliers (disconnected but fast start) xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec connect xls start fast 1 sec xls start fast 1 sec disconnect xls 1 min 44 sec ......................... long freeze xls 6 sec

On Intel i7-412MQ : Hi, I Tested the startup freeze on the same version of LibreOffice (7.0.4.2) on a computer with an Intel Haswell Mobile (i7-412MQ) CPU - 4 Cores with Hyper-Threading, running Windows 7 x64 Pro SP1. I get the same behavior, with a startup delay when the PPPOE Broadband Connection is switched off. It seems to me that on this CPU the freezes could be slightly shorter because the CPU is more powerful ( for a long freeze, I got on the AMD CPU a value of 1 min 43 sec vs. 54 seconds on the Intel CPU; and for a short freeze on the AMD CPU I got a value of 6 seconds vs. 4 seconds on the Intel CPU ), but this doesn't explain why on the Virtual Machine running on the AMD CPU the freezes are shorter (4 seconds) than on the main guest OS (6 seconds). This is what I measured on the Intel i7-412MQ for startup times: - PPPOE Broadband connection; - I used one .xls and one .ods file; internet off: 3,4 sec internet on: very fast = tested many times internet off: first time start after internet off - 54 sec ----------------------------- 3,4 sec 3,4 sec 3,4 sec 3,4 sec internet on: .ods - 1,27 sec on first start after internet on .xls and .ods - very fast = tested many times internet off: 3,4 sec - many times

Looks the same as in existing bug. You may add something there, please be concise. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 131128 ***
The freeze doesn't happen for me on Windows 10 x64: Windows 10 Pro version 10.0.10240 Build 10240 On Intel i7-412MQ, LibreOffice 7.0.4.2 x64, connecting to internet using a PPPOE Broadband connection, tested with .xls and .ods files, like before, I tested many times and there was no freeze. internet off, cable NOT Connected - always very fast starts internet off, cable connected - always very fast starts internet on - always very fast starts
Hi, On Windows 10, I tested LibreOffice startup times when using an internet connection with usb tethering and after that with wi-fi. I don't get longer startup times with wi-fi active, but I do get slightly longer startup times when the computer is connected to the internet using USB tethering using a mobile phone with Android. i7-412MQ, Windows 10, LibreOffice 7.0.4.2 x64 usb tethering on 4 sec 6 sec 4.3 sec 4.6 sec 3.4 sec 2.7 sec 2.5 sec 3.4 sec 3.3 sec 3.4 sec usb tethering off 1.3 - fast start, tested many times usb tethering on 5.1 sec 5.1 sec 3.8 sec 3.8 sec 3.5 sec 4.2 sec 3.1 sec 3.6 sec 3.6 sec ---------------------------------------------------- wi-fi on or Off - only fast starts (1.4 sec) 2.7 sec 1.4 sec 1.5 sec
Changing the Proxy server settings from System to None fixed my startup freezes, too. Tools > Options > Internet > Proxy > Proxy server = None
