Hi In the past I've used base and registered data sources to get data into calc but I'm experimenting with the data provider. When trying to create a pivot table Data->Pivot Table->Insert or Edit the option Named Range only includes 'named ranges' whereas it should probably also include ranges defined through the Data->define range option.... or provide these as another radio button with a list. Created attachment 166322 [details] Calc spreadsheet with database range The database range is defined at $A$1 as listimport.
Created attachment 166323 [details] the csv file to import into the db range this files needs to be in ~/Downloads
Hi I've uploaded the files. If you open the calc spreadsheet there is a defined database range at $A$1:$O$14 This is not a normal range as created by Insert->Named Range or Expression and does not appear in the navigator. The option Data->Pivot table->Insert or Edit gives a dialog with three choices one of which is Named Range - this option is greyed out even though a database range exists
Because named ranges are no part of the Menu/Data/Define range and has nothing to do with it (Menu/Sheet/Named Ranges and expressions), to access database data, must be selected the option 'Data source registered' and from base file select the data.
(In reply to m.a.riosv from comment #5) > Because named ranges are no part of the Menu/Data/Define range and has > nothing to do with it (Menu/Sheet/Named Ranges and expressions), to access > database data, must be selected the option 'Data source registered' and from > base file select the data. I understand the registered database option for external data (I use them all the time). But (and with respect) if Calc is going to allow an option for 'normal' named ranges as a source for a Pivot Tables then surely database ranges must also be allowed for consistency? This is especially true if one is trying to use a database range based on a link to another sheet (say a csv file). M
