Description Timur 2020-11-02 09:12:09 UTC
When any ODT, DOC or DOCX is printed from Writer and LO closed, "Last Printed" is changed (as seen in File-Properties).
If document is closed without saving, field "Last Printed" is not saved and there's no dialog to save.
If the document is saved after printing and before saving, "Last Printed" is saved.

When a file is printed from MSO, it immediately get "Last Printed" set, so after it's closed and reopened, even there's no dialog to save file, Last Printed stays.

Seems to me that current LO behavior is logical, but it may confuse user who would compare it to MSO, so it needs to be explained in Help.

To be sure, I add UX to CC who may convert this to non-help bug.

Related issue are fields from mail merge print, as in bug 128458.

Isn't the explicit Save after Print the freedom of choice we want to offer. While MSO silently increases the counter we allow users to store this information. This requires of course the changed flag to be set after printing resulting in the confirmation to not save the changes. Does it? if so WF, IMO.

Heiko, I agree with you, same is written but I ask you to confirm as Documentation bug, to have that explained.

Yes, let's add a note to the documentation. Seth, one for you?

Is there a particular page in mind? Maybe here:

https://help.libreoffice.org/7.1/en-US/text/shared/01/01100200.html

under "Last Printed"

But my mind-reading powers are not working today, and I could not extract what exactly should be communicated or explained.

Please make a proposed text or indicate the important facts to be communicated, and I can go from there.

Timur added the URL in the ticket specs.

Now:
"Last printed
Displays the date and time and user name when the file was last printed."

I'd add a Note here (with some standard formatting) with:
"Note:
If document is printed, "Last Printed" is changed. If document is closed without user saving it, there's no dialog to save changes and "Last Printed" last change is not saved. Only if document is saved, "Last Printed" is saved."
