Description: I'm running !Pop OS 20.10 and Libreoffice 7.1. However, this problem was been with me since somewhere in Version 6. My hardware is Ryzen 7 37600 processor with 16 Gb and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile graphics processor. What happens is that when I type in any LibreOffice application, there is a long lag between when I hit a key and the letter or number appearing on screen. It is very pronoucned in Calc, but also noticeable in Writer. With an empty Writer document, the typing looks just fine until about 40 characters in, then the lag shows up and increases as I type. I can see a lag between keystroke as long as five seconds or even more. I installed FreeOffice to check whether the issue is with my system or hardware. There is no lag in FreeOffice nor in Abi Word. This seems to only happen in Libreoffice. I tried disabling OpenCL, disabling Java, and increasing the application memory. None of this fixed the issue. Oddly enough, when the Nvidia driver is disabled, things work fine; there's no lag. This appears to be some kind of compatibility issue with Libreoffice and the Nvidia graphics card. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Writer or Calc and start typing. The lag shows up right away. 2. 3. Actual Results: For me, all it takes is starting Writer or Calc and typing something into a document or spreadsheet cell. I noticed this first with a complicated financial spreadsheet. Expected Results: I saw increasing lag between my keystroke and the characters I typed showing up on screen. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes OpenGL enabled: Yes Additional Info: There should be no noticeable delay between hitting the keyboard and seeing text or numbers appear on screen. Note, although Open GL is currently enabled, I have tried disabling it to no avail.
Maybe try portable edition.. https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/stable-fresh-portable/
What difference would the portable edition make? Just trying to understand the nature of the issue and determine the best solution. I like the idea of the portable apps manager, though. That'd let me use my tablet like a little netbook. Thanks, at the very least you turned me onto something useful.
The difference between an appimage and what is in Pop OS is that the distribution might have done something different in compiling and packaging LibreOffice. Do you still see the problem with the latest LibreOffice version available in Pop OS? Do you see it with an appimage of 7.3 or 7.4 https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/ If you still see it, please copy and paste here the contents of your Help - About. This allows us to know more about your system. Set to NEEDINFO. Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the information. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.
