Description: LibreOffice Calc 6.4.6.2 is unable to open sheet of Excel of 52 columns by 45 lines in order to get the data. It reads the file format i.e. row and column colors, but is unable to load the data. While LibreOffice Calc 5.1.6.2 does this without any problem. The old version can even read much larger Excel sheets. So I must first load the excel file with LibreCalc 5.1.6.2, then convert the file to ods format, to be able to use LibreCalc 6.4.6.2. So I have to juggle between version 16.04 of ubuntu and version 20.04. Steps to Reproduce: 1 2. 3. Actual Results: .I load an excel sheet from ocde site. The sheet is of 52 columns by 45 lines. This version of LibreOffice Calc was unable to load the data. While LibreOffice Calc 5.1.6.2 do it. I try many times is always the same. 2.The hardware is an iMac 21" of 2013 and a macbook pro of 2010. Expected Results: I try on iMac and Macbook pro, under ubuntu 20.04 is always the same. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Same result
LO 6.4 branch is EOL (End Of Life) so isn't maintained anymore at least officially by TDF. By using LO ppa (see https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa), you can try LO 7.0.4 or brand new 7.1.1
Serge, please attach your problem file here, thanks
Created attachment 170414 [details] economical data from OCDE in exel sheet format That is the file that the libreOffice Calc version 7.0.3.1 can't open properly. It's unable to load the data. If I use the LibreOffice Calc under ubuntu 16.04 I can load the data. And after convert the excel sheet in the ods format, LibreOffice Calc version 7.0.3.1, under Ubuntu 20.4 can read it and load the data.
Created attachment 170415 [details] file converted in ods format After conversion of the file by LibreOffice Calc under Ubuntu 16.04, in ods format, it's possible to load the data by the version of Ubuntu 20.4.
After update, the version of LibreOffice Calc is : 7.0.3.1. But the problem remained the same : It's unable to read the file of data, unless I'd converted it before with LibreOffice Calc 5.1.6.2 in ods format. Thank you very much for your answer. I hope that the problem will be resolved, otherwise I've to use the older version of LibreOffice.
I open file just easy in Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 9d8accf03984a64a4105826e55b221962628eb93 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 6.1 Service Pack 1 Build 7601; UI render: default; VCL: win Locale: ru-RU (ru_RU); UI: en-US Calc: CL and in Version: 7.1.0.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: f6099ecf3d29644b5008cc8f48f42f4a40986e4c CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 6.1 Service Pack 1 Build 7601; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: ru-RU (ru_RU); UI: en-US Calc: CL So, try install 7.1 version then and check it again
On LO Debian package 7.0.4, I don't reproduce this with gen/kf5/gtk3 renderings. Could you give a try at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps ?
Created attachment 170484 [details] Index of industrial production from OCDE in excel sheet. Hello, I come back after some experimentation: I installed Ubuntu version 20.10 which contains LibreOffice version 7.0.3.1. Always the same, LibreOffice Calc is unable to properly open an Excel sheet. Whereas previous versions were able to open a spreadsheet of this size. I checked the functioning of the spreadsheet by going to the OECD site and downloading a data sheet of monthly industrial production indices from January 2000 to February 2021. And still the same: LibreOffice Calc 7.0.3.1 is unable to read the sheet and load the data. Whereas previous versions, especially version 5.1.6, did this without problems. I installed Gnumeric and it opened the sheet and loaded the data immediately. With Gnumeric I converted the spreadsheet to "ods" format, and only then LibreOffice Calc managed to read the data sheet. I wanted to check if the problem was not related to Ubuntu; I did the same test with different live distributions on a usb key, the result is the same: each time LibreOffice Calc is unable to load the data. And I did the test on two different devices; an iMac and a Macbook Pro. So that you can check it for yourself, I am sending you the last sheet that I downloaded from the OECD site. And I also send you the same sheet, but converted to "ods" format by Gnumeric. I await your feedback, but for me it is obvious that since version 6, LibreOffice Calc has a problem, it has become unable to load an Excel sheet when it exceeds a certain dimension, which remains reasonable, or 255 columns by 54 lines! I don't know how to load a second text.

On pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 7.0.4, no pb to open the xls file with gen or gtk3 rendering. You installed Ubuntu 20.10 but only after having erased the disk or just did the upgrade only? If last case, could you try https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps as indicated in my previous comment? Indeed, if you just upgraded, you kept your LO directory profile, so if it contains something buggy, it's expected you'll still have the pb.
Hello Julien Nabet, when you say you don't have any problem to open an excel sheet, do you mean the one I send to you ("OCDE Industrial production.xls") ? And which version of Debian do you use ? Because I will try it. About the installation of Ubuntu 20.10, I did not completely erase the "/home" partition, but instead I formatted the "/" partition. Thank for your answer.
(In reply to Serge FRANCOIS from comment #12) > Hello Julien Nabet, when you say you don't have any problem to open an excel > sheet, do you mean the one I send to you ("OCDE Industrial production.xls") > ? And which version of Debian do you use ? Because I will try it. About the > installation of Ubuntu 20.10, I did not completely erase the "/home" > partition, but instead I formatted the "/" partition. Thank for your answer. On pc Debian testing (updated almost every day), with LO Debian package 7.0.4.2, both files, "OCDE Essai 1.xls" and "OCDE Industrial Production 2000 - 2021-M2.xls" open and show the numbers. About your installation, since you didn't erase /home, you can indeed apply https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps.
Hello, I did, as suggested by you, "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa && sudo apt-get update"; and then "apt-get upgrade". So now the last version stable - I hope - is installed. I tried to open the file from OCDE, and effectively is opened with all the data. So, the problem is resolved. Thank you very much. But I'm surprise that the version of LibreOffice Calc, from 6.4.6.2 until 7.0.3.1 are unable to open and load an excel file of this size! Any way, thank you very much for your help.
