Description w.sirges 2021-03-25 19:44:02 UTC
I have a database with several tables. I have created forms to work with them. The forms have a button to close it when I click on it. This works.

I wanted to add a keyboard shortcut to these buttons. The documentation I could find says to add a tilde (~) in front of the character I want. I can type the tilde, but as soon as I leave the label field (pressing Tab or closing the dialog by mouse) Base crashes.

In a test environment (VM with Win7, JRE 1.8.0_281, LibO 6.4.7.2) this works as expected.

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today + gen or gtk3 rendering, I don't reproduce this but perhaps I missed something.

I created a brand new odb file (embedded hsqldb) + a table with wizard + a form with wizard too.
Then I added a push button.
I right clicked the button and chose "Control properties", in "label" field, I added an "~" in front of "Push button", then clicked in another field, no crash.

@w.sirges :

You don't mention which version of Windows you are using where the crash occurs.

Does the tilde in that version of Windows OS represent something in particular, i.e. is it a system reserved function, or does the problem occur irrespective of the WinOS version, and only with LO7.x ?
Comment 3 Alex Thurgood 2021-03-26 08:53:03 UTC
For example, there appear to be a number of issues with the tilde key on Windows 10, especially if you have multiple language input and/or keyboard. Perhaps this is the root of the problem ?

cf, for example, the following thread:

Did it work?

I've created a new VM with Kubuntu 20.04 x64 and, after some updates, got it to work. Base needed an SDBC driver and is working. I've created a test DB with one table and form, and I could a keyboard shortcut to a button. No crash.

But it doesn't work. How did you configure this?

You are correct, I forgot. Sorry about that.

I have Windows 10 Pro x64 German, with all the latest Patches & Updates applied (Version 20H2, Build 19042.870).

I have no idea.

As I've said, in a VM with Win7 x86 and LibO 6.4.7.2, it works as expected.

I don't have multiple languages or keyboards installed, just German (Deutschland).

Following this article, thank you, I've disabled all change key sequence setups. I need to test this, though.

I didn't test this, I just can tell that putting a tilde and click on another field didn't crash.

Could you please try to reproduce it with version 7.1.3.2 of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
