Description Michael 2021-04-05 22:47:25 UTC
Description:
I open with LibreOffice an .xls file created with Microsoft Excel. The file contains 4 graphs. LibreOffice opens .xls as Calc. 2 of the graphs are OK, but 2 are distorted. I tried different LibreOffice versions on diff. pc-s. Again, the same file in Microsoft Excel is OK, but in LibreOffice is unusable. I am happy to provide the file, but do not see this option.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Read the file that I will provide
2.
3.

Actual Results:
obviously incorrect graph

Expected Results:
obviously correct graph

Reproducible: Always

I will try to attach the file using the "Add an Attachment" option I see below. If it won't work I can e-mail the file.
Thanks.

the file I am trying to attach is 375K. Not sure that your attachment tool will allow this. I can mail the file. Thanks.

I don't see the bug. Third and fourth chart in Sheet2 contain a data range

Third Chart: $Sheet2.$A$2380:$B$5190
Fourth Chart: $Sheet2.$A$3592:$B$5042

But starting in row 4069 there are **no** x-values, while there are y-values up to row 5270. No x-values are taken as "0" and hence you get date 1899-12-30 (which is based on default calc settings day 0). Adapt data ranges to be last row

Third Chart: $Sheet2.$A$2380:$B$4068
Fourth Chart: Fourth Chart: $Sheet2.$A$3592:$B$4068

OK, but if you open the same in MicroSoft Excel you will see that the graph just stops where the x-data is not entered yet, which is the user intention that Excel understands. There must be consistency between the applications.

So my complaint may be qualified not as a bug but as an enhancement request, to make LibreOffice consistent with MS Office.

Thanks.

The change in importance accordantly.

And while editing the chart.
Menu/Format/Format Selection
enabling en Plot Options 'Leave gap' instead of 'Assume zero' seems to work.

Dear Team,

I have re-tested with the same file that I submitted to you originally in LO version 7.2.2.2. Nothing has changed; the graph is distorted.

Your original reply was that it was not a bug, but the distortion was because column A is not completed with data within the selected range. This is correct, but, to compare, Excel does understand that A is not fully filled and does not try to draw beyond what is filled. LO does not understand this and creates the distortion.

It is up to you to decide if you want LibreOffice to be as smart as Excel is.
For me, I just dropped LO and use Excel.

Thank you and please do not contact me again about this.
Michael

Editing the data series there is an option 'Plot missing values - Leave gap', that I think gives what you want.
