When drafting a document, headers and footers are not of interest, and page breaks can be a distraction because of objects that break across pages (e.g. tables), which should be addressed in a final draft and not an initial draft. Writer incorporates the useful feature that a double click near the page boundary hides the margins making the document appear to be continuous rather than paginated, a view more appropriate for drafting. A setting (preference) allowing the user to specify this as the default view would be very useful. Thank you for your consideration.
Setting is available from the 'View' menu, the 'Show Whitespace' command. Assigned a keyboard accelerator as localized, e.g. <Alt>+V --> <Alt>+E. And toggling off 'Show Whitespace' coupled with 'View' --> 'Zoom'--> 'Optimal View' currently eliminates majority of white space from document canvas showing. Simply achieved by menu/accelerator/dbl-clicking, so not clear there is benefit to combining both into a new editing mode to complement 'Normal' or 'Web' or even 'Full Screen'; but that remains open as bug 37817 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 37817 ***
