Description almaember 2021-04-29 16:22:47 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice has sheet protection and edit protection features. These features prevent the user from editing files that have these features enabled.

While these features are useful in some situations, it impedes on the user's right to use their computer as they wish.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open LibreOffice Calc
2.Select a sheet and protect it with Tools > Protect sheet
3.Try to edit it

Actual Results:
I can not edit the sheet, and I can not disable this protection without the password.

Expected Results:
LibreOffice would allow me to, in some way, bypass this restriction. There can be many ways to do this, for example

 - A special macro/menu option that disables it without needing the password
 - A special option (potentially one that requires administrative rights to change), that would make LibreOffice ignore these restrictions.

The latter would allow to still have these restrictions working when it makes sense, for example a school environment.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

If you didn't assign a password when protecting a sheet you also don't have to enter a password when you unprotect it. Just leave the password field empty. If there was a password assigned then of course it has to be entered, you were using your computer as you wished.

Nothing to change.

Right, I am using my computer as wished. That's for reproduction.

In a scenario outside of testing, you'd receive it from someone else without knowing the password.

I would like to note that other implementations of OpenDocument already ignore it, and any "protection" it gives is placebo at best.

The Open Document it's relative to file format not to their content, and has nothing to do with the licenses of use of their content.

I couldn't think there is any possibility of broke the feature.
