Description johnks 2021-07-23 17:48:34 UTC
Description:
i did a simple experiment. i wrote a simple list in writer. saved the file. then exported the file to pdf.
then opened pdf in draw.
tried to copy text into a new writer file or even calc file.
i expect "text" to get copied. instead it takes entire selection as some sort of draw image or something. each text line is shown as its own text box and that is very difficult to manage. i just updated to 7.1.5.2 but the version doesnt seem to be there so i set to last version i was on. i will attach 3 docs.
1. input lists file.
2. output of lists file to compare. the pdf file.
3. output odt file which contains text copy pasted from opened pdf file in draw.

the input lists file and output odt file should match. it is not

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open input file list.odt in writer. confirm text is written as a list without any formatting.
2. export file as pdf.
3. open file in draw.
4. try to copy the text in draw and paste into a new writer or a calc file.

Actual Results:
copied text is interpreted as some image or something else which invokes draw settings instead of simple text copy

Expected Results:
simply the text should get copied instead of what is currently happening

Reproducible: Always

PDFs aren't really meant for editing, and Draw can only offer limited editing capabilities. In this case the lines are imported as individual text boxes, and though perhaps copy/pasting all of them as a group could be somewhat improved so they're pasted as a group of text boxes, it wouldn't be very helpful to you, as the text still isn't easy to manage in that form.

What you're looking for is something like the feature described in bug 32249, which would make the copy/paste experience much better as well.
