Description: I suggest to add a "Options" button into the "Insert Footnote/Endnote" dialog. The suggested button should open Tools-Footnote/Endnote dialog. Today users just don't know about that dialog and they can't set up their foot/endnotes as they want (like a numbering of footnote) Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert -> Footnote/Endnote -> Footnote or endnote ->... or 2. Doubleclick on the endnote number Actual Results: There are no any button to call the numbering style of footnote in the "Insert Footnote/Endnote settings" or "Edit Footnote/Endnote" window Expected Results: The [Oprions..."] button in the "Edit Footnote/Endnote" window that will call the Footnote Settings window (available in the Tools -> Footnotes and Endnotes) - that is not obviously for many users. Also Footnote settings may be available in the righ-click context menu Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.0.6.2 Build ID: 00(Build:2) CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.19; UI render: default; VCL: x11 Locale: ru-RU (ru_RU.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
Up to design team +1 from me
Would it not be better to adjust the in-built footnote/endnote style, or create one or more footnote/endnote styles to meet the specific user requirements? Maybe the OP is not referring to Writer "Styles", but seeking to introduce another dialog for "Direct Formatting" of footnotes/endnotes. -1 from me.
Tempting idea but wouldn't it be awkward to auto close this modal insert dialog and show some other setting? Had a similar discussion with Mike lately and expect some disagreement.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #3) I don't think that opening settings from here should *close* current dialog; rather, I suppose that settings should behave as second-level dialog in this case (and I like the idea of accessing stuff from where it's used naturally in general; only sometimes it becomes controversial IMO).
The ticket was on the agenda for the design meeting but did not receive further input. Solving the issue with more styles, as suggested in comment 2, sounds reasonable but clutters the list of PS. And actually whether to use numbers or characters is a matter of design and requires user decisions. And ultimately not all foot-/endnote options are attributes of the PS. So let's add the shortcut.
