Are you using X11 or Wayland? Quick way to find out via terminal:

env | grep -i wayland
Comment 2 Buovjaga 2021-11-12 05:05:06 UTC
Do you have Nvidia hardware? There is bug 144033 talking about it.

$ env | grep -i wayland
$ env | grep -i X11

entered also at 144033 which is not my issue though related (it seems to me)

I used synaptic to remove older versions of LO 6.2 and 6.3. Now the link to 6.4 brings up the NO LAG version of 7.2.2.2

No Lag
Version: 7.2.2.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 20(Build:2)
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-CA (en_CA.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Ubuntu package version: 1:7.2.2~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1
Calc: threaded

and the link to the 'current' LO Calc brings the problem one:
Still Lag
Version: 7.2.2.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 1eb16ced50a80b7125fabf09652dbb09393766d2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-CA (en_CA.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: CL

That should shed some light for those that know the different packages and delivery.

I'm, unfortunately, still trying to figure out how to deal with LO and Ubuntu, links, software versions, etc. Least there is a fix for my use.

Ok, what catches my eye is Calc: CL in the laggy one. So it uses OpenCL. You could try deactivating it from Tools - Options - LibreOffice - OpenCL
Comment 6 George James 2021-11-14 18:20:10 UTC
Before opening the Bug
I had checked for OpenGL
and found OpenCL
was not set

Did set it to be used
and it was not a fix.

NOW I looked and
Open CL was checked to be used.

I unchecked it
and tested
and
the Lag is still there in the problem Build
ID 1eb16ced50a80b7125fabf09652dbb09393766d2

So It's NOT Open CL
caused/fixed

Interestingly
The link that used to bring up LO 6.4 Writer (where I could open a spreadsheet in 6.4) did once open that Ubuntu build of LO 7.2.2.2
but again now opens 6.4!
Open Cl was off
I turned it on.
No lag with or without:

Build details for another version that has no lag:
Version: 6.4.7.2
Build ID: 639b8ac485750d5696d7590a72ef1b496725cfb5
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-CA (en_CA.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

over my head, but probably not for someone else.
Comment 7 Buovjaga 2021-11-15 09:06:21 UTC
As you still have the problem with a TDF build, this is not worksforme.
Comment 8 George James 2021-11-19 17:14:23 UTC
An updated Calc lags still and Writer in 7.2.3.1 has a slight lag as well:
Version: 7.2.3.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 7b257967b9cd574cb72598999edde852baa10d80
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-CA (en_CA.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: CL

(Still have not figured out how to choose which version to update how when etc or which one will run or how to control the various installs. Frustrating. But it'll come. For now the UBuntu distro 7.2.2.2 does not lag. And I can get it to run.)

@George James
Are you using a 4k monitor?
