Created attachment 180776 [details] Character window has language option as well, jut bellow the font, size
While trying to reproduce this issue i noticed the same behavior is happening whenever you are doing the following steps: 1. Click/ Right Click on the language label in the footer / status bar section 2. Click on “Set language for paragraph” from the context menu 3. Click on “More” 4. Notice that the “Character” window is opening up (which has multiple option to customize font, style, size, but also Language) In conclusion for both footer section “Language” options (More for Language and also paragraph selection) we are seeing the “Character” window opening, which also has the possibility to select Language further. So, this behavior it’s reproducible in the same manner on the other versions as well.
I also checked other possible ways to update Language preferences and there’s also the possibility to select more languages from the Main Menu with following steps: 1. Select “Tools” from Main Menu 2. Then select “Language” from the sub menu 3. Notice there are multiple ways to apply language (for selection, paragraph or all text) 4. Select one of those (eg. “For all text”) 5. Select “More” for that option 6. Notice that the Character window is the open opening (same as in the case of language selection from the footer/ status bar) I am thinking that this might be the intended behavior, even though the window is named differently and the Language option is less visible in this window and it might create confusion for the end users.
After checking the documentation on this release and the user manual I noticed that this behaviour is the intended one, as it comes out from the Writer Guide (https://books.libreoffice.org/en/WG72/WG7201-IntroducingWriter.html). Please check the following reference: “Text Language - Shows the language and localization used for spelling, hyphenation, and the thesaurus. It is based on the position of the cursor or the selected text. Click to open a menu where you can choose another language/localization for the selected text or for the paragraph where the cursor is located. Choosing More... opens the Character dialog. “ Considering this, I think we can close this ticket as resolved.
After checking the other programs as well from Libre office suite, I noticed that the footer/ status bar section Language >> More option form Calc, or Impress opens a completely different window (called Options - Language Settings - Languages) than the one from Writer, making Writer inconsistent with the rest of the product from the suite and generating confusions like this one among the end user who are user to the other tools. Also, I analyzed the other products from the market, such as MS Word or MS PowerPoint and they also have a language specific window only (called Language), similar to the one in Impress or Calc, but consistent across all apps. Considering this, I think we should consider this a design issue and try to improve the overall user experience by creating consistency across the Libre Office Suite apps.
Based on comment 3, and also 6 and 7, it this works for me? Also, based on comment 9, is there needed a change to windows on Writer?

Using Version: 25.2.5.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR); UI: fr-FR Reproducing the same steps: With Impress : opens window with the general settings about languages with Calc and Writer : opens window with Character formatting As asked before : is it a bug ? Is it intentional ? Why Impress/Calc and Writer have different behaviours ?
