Description eustacerussell 2021-11-28 11:14:24 UTC
Description:
I was sent here to request enhancements. Currently I have dark templates for writing documents and I have set a Dark theme by changing things like Document background, Application background and Icons for working at night. It is easier on the eyes. The problem is that when I want to review the document to see how it prints I have to change the template to the one for printing and change the preferences one by one. I request a feature that allows me to swap.

Actual Results:
my method works fine

Expected Results:
It works fine

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I would like to just swap

Thank you for your enhancement request. Not sure, if the following steps are correct:

1. Open a document with some text.
2. Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> Application Colours: Select LibreOffice Dark as scheme => dark background of document and text in white (automatic)
3. File -> Print Preview

Actual result
Dark background of document and text in white (automatic)

Desired result
Print Preview should show colours of the printed document (like in print dialog) or (at least) provide a button to change to default scheme.

Eustace, do this steps descibe your idea? If not, please specify the steps.

Plase make also sure, that you're using the actual version of LO (7.2.4), because it seems, you're using an old version.

I tested with

Version: 7.4.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 2934472ab888ebfe64a153984af2902fac63a7a0
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB
Calc: CL

Thanks for your suggestion. It works as you describe but it does not solve my problem in Version: 6.1.5.2 Build ID: 1:6.1.5-3+deb10u7 which is the most recent for Debian Buster as far as I can tell. I also must apologize because it does not seem like I outlined my problem clearly. I have two themes that I need to use. One for editing because of my eyes on the screen and another for printing on whatever colour paper I am using. I do create a dark theme in the manner that I described using the same window that you are suggesting and choosing the colours for developing the document and it works for me. After I create the document I want to see how it will look printed on the paper and make any edits that enhance printing on paper. For example the text that I use on paper is a grey-scale that is dark while that on screen is a grey-scale that is light. I would like to switch seamlessly between the two templates and on the appropriate background. It is not impossible, just a nuisance to have to switch the template then switch the colours in the background one by one, and have to do that repeatedly depending on the amount of changes. I do not see an option to just switch themes in Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> Application Colours. I have to change the colours one by one 😭. It would be great if I could make a theme that shows up as an option instead of choosing colours one by one 😁. Maybe I just don't know how to do it.

I have tried to clarify what I am asking for in my comment. Did not realise that I needed to respond here.

sorry I should have said two TEMPLATES rather than two THEMES that I need to use.

As I've tried to describe: There are two shemes for application colours: LibreOffice and LibreOffice Dark. Perhaps it isn't available in LO 6.1.5.2, but current development is only for LO 7.2 and forthcoming 7.3. I'm not familiar with Linux, but can't believe, that there is no current version for Debian.

So please try to update LO and retest

I went to the LibreOffice website and downloded the most recent stable version for debian
Version: 7.1.8.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e1f30c802c3269a1d052614453f260e49458c82c
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

So I am providing my present information based on that
The way that I approach creating my viewing space is I break it up into 3 areas
Part 1. The outer part controlled by the OS and the software tools
Part 2. The inner part that Shows what I design
Part 3. The part that is sandwiched between those and some other ancillary features.

I am able to control part 1 through themes that I obtain from the OS developers. LibreOffice and some other produces also provide themes that modify that area.
I am able to control part 2 through templates for the specific software and this is the case with LibreOffice.
Part 3 is the area of concern. Some software include control for that in the templates and some in the themes to some degree but it is what I am concerned with in my request.

In Linux LibreOffice provides six themes in Tools-> options-> personalization and I make use of the dark theme or use a dark theme from my OS. These cover part 1.
I have created templates for my documents and they manage part 2.

I have found no way to control the remainder in LibreOffice except to individually select them in Tools-> options-> Application Colours.

Your suggestion is that in the most recent version I should find a selection that allows me to choose between two options that would control these from Tools-> options-> Application Colours.

In the versions that I have used there is no selection. I have always seen a drop-down control at the top with the caption 'scheme:' but there is no selection. There is only one choice available and that is "LibreOffice".

It is quite likely that I am not looking the right place or have tampered with the software in some way that prevents what you are saying but I have not seen it where you are pointing to.

I just had a look at release notes of LO 7.2. Dark theme was introduced in this version: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/7.2#GUI

So please give a new feedback, if you're able to install LO 7.2

I am in the process of rebuilding my PC after a crash and now I have Version: 7.2.4.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 27d75539669ac387bb498e35313b970b7fe9c4f9
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

The dark theme is there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯!!!!

I have not had time to fool around with it but I will change the status because it seems to be what I want.
