Testkit

hi there!

I found that Calc, Impress and Craw display protected hyphens as small boxes for the default font "Liberation Sans".
If the font is changed to any other font, the protected hyphens are displayed as expected.

only writer is not affected by this bug.

I have attached a presentation as testkit.

No problem here with that file. Maybe you could also try on another machine, if you can.

Fwiw, the "protected hyphen" is U+2011 "‑" NON-BREAKING HYPHEN and that character is not present in the Liberation Sans font (check in Special Character dialog), so a fallback replacement is used. However, I can't reproduce the problem either and it renders just fine (whatever font might be used there).
Comment 3 OfficeUser 2022-03-04 17:26:59 UTC
All other Applications (including Writer, but also OnlyOffice and Abiword) are not affected by this bug.

Additional info: I have installed two packets of the Liberation fonts. I will attache screenshot. The older package is a dependence that OnlyOffice requires.

Installed Liberation font packages.
Comment 5 OfficeUser 2022-03-04 17:30:18 UTC
In case Eike is right, Calc/Impress/Draw should adopt Writer's replacement scheme.

Hi m.a.riosv,

thanks for commenting. I get the same bad result in safe mode. :-(

Since I have installed two different versions of Liberation fonts maybe Impress/Draw/Calc select the wrong version.

I have installed

- Version 1.07.4, Copyright (c) 2007 Red Hat, Inc. All rights reserved. LIBERATION is a trademark of Red Hat, Inc.

and
- Version 2.00.2, Digitized data copyright (c) 2010 Google Corporation.

I found a workaround. After uninstalling the package "fonts-liberation2" the protected hyphen is also correctly rendered in Calc/Impress/Draw.

Adjusted summary. Calc/Impress/Draw need a patch to deal with new versions of Liberation Sans font.
Comment 11 OfficeUser 2022-03-28 13:14:21 UTC
Easy steps to reproduce:

- Install package "fonts-liberation2"
- Open the attached Testkit

Note that the protected hypen is not rendered for Liberation Sans font. Instead a small box is displayed.
