Menu/View/Toolbars/Form Control, with Check-box button, you can do it, right-click on it to select their control options, and link the value to a cell. https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/02/01170000.html?DbPAR=SHARED#bm_id3154142
The Google Sheets checkbox feature works much better. The checkbox is like a character, you can copy it to other cells and it doesn't remain tied to a particular cell. You can also resize the column to fit the checkbox. AFAIK LibreOffice Form Controls don't exist within a cell, they float on the sheet. They are tied to a cell, so when you copy it, they remain tied to say, A1.
