Description jj201 2022-05-01 15:48:26 UTC
Description:
CSV file is saved using optional delimiter but doesn't keep it if changed to new file name and no question pops up to choose delimiter. The user then thinks it's in the format chosen before.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Save a CSV file with optional delimiter semi-colon
2.Change contents(don't know if necessary)
3.Save file with new file name.
4.File is now in default delimiter and no question how to save it.

Actual Results:
CSV file with wrong delimiter.

Expected Results:
CSV file with the same delimiter as original file before Save As.

Reproducible: Always

Also no repro in Windows with Lo 7.3 and 7.5+.
Please attach a minimal screencast so that some detail may arise.

I don't have this version of LibreOffice installed and can't make a screencast.

If delimiter settings are changed from default to semi-colon before saving a CSV, then if a new file with a new filename with the same contents is saved after that, the changed delimiter is not kept but goes back to default.

Example:
Lets say you are working with a file and you changed the delimiter to semi-colon and save the file. Then you want to save the file with a new filename and keep the delimiter setting you changed before. The bug makes the file with the new filename use the default delimiter for CSV files instead.

1.File saved with semi-colon delimiter
2.File saved with new filename
3.File now has new filename but default CSV delimiter.

When you go to menu File > Save As in order to save with a different name, there is a checkbox named "Edit filter settings". Having that "on" will prompt you to introduce the parameters you want.

If I open a csv file that is actually saved with a specific separator (e.g. semicolon, or colon), in my experience saving it with a different name would respect the same separator.

If you want to save it using a different separator (or you want to verify which settings are being used to save the file), use the checkbox I mentioned.

If you are using a different procedure to save the file with a different name, please be more specific in your description of the steps to follow.

Perhaps you need to generate a sample file with whichever delimiter you want and attach it to this report. With a more-detailed description of the steps and a sample file, maybe we might be able to replicate the problem.

Needinfo once more for the last comment, or NotABug.

If you can't replicate it with the 7.3.2.2 version and the steps above, then I don't have any other information. I noticed it didn't work the same way as it has for 10+ years before. I might add that I don't know which version introduced this bug or change. It's either this or any going back one year from 7.3.2.2.
