Description Russell Almond 2022-07-21 00:19:37 UTC
Description:
I typically do not like to work in full screen mode. Libre Office draw opens full screen. I drag the title bar down, to make it a floating window; however, the size seems to be very, very small, (windows with widths or heights of less than 10 pixels). It is then hard to locate on the screen.

This default behavior seems happen when a new document is created, too.

There should be some minimum size (100 x 100 pixels?) that the window moves to when created as floating rather than maximized.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open any Libre Office tool.
2. Select File > New > Drawing

Actual Results:
Tiny tiny window (see screen shot).

Expected Results:
Window of approximately the same size I get when opening a Writer document or Spreadsheet

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Pop_OS 22.04.
Flatpak version of Libre Office.
Gnome 42.2/X11.

Here is the opened window. I moved it slightly, because if it appears on the toolbar of another open office document (or pretty much any other app) it can be invisible.

Hi Russel, thanks for reporting.

I cannot reproduce the bug. When I create a new Drawing with a floating window, it remembers the last window size.

Try running in safe mode and see if the problem persists. Simply run in the command line:

$ libreoffice --safe-mode

Then choose "Continue in safe mode".

I believe this has something to do with some window size that is being "remembered" in your user profile. If that's the case, resetting your user profile might fix the issue.

BTW window sizes are saved to:

~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/registrymodifications.xcu

The window size is saved under the ooSetupFactoryWindowAttributes property. See answer from Danzel in:

Here is the relevant line from registrymodifications.xcu

<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Setup/Office/Factories/org.openoffice.Setup:Factory['com.sun.star.frame.StartModule']"><prop oor:name="ooSetupFactoryWindowAttributes" oor:op="fuse"><value>121,188,1649,892;1;0,0,0,0;</value></prop></item>

Following the instructions in the linked document and resetting the value of that flag did in fact fix the problem for me.

However, I still think there is an issue. LibreOffice should not be able get into such a state; I don't think a user without a high level of computer expertise would be comfortable hacking the registry to fix the problem.

I agree. Even if the user resizes it to a very small size (and this size gets saved to the registry), the next time the user opens the application there should be a minimal window size that would make it obvious for the user that the application has indeed opened.

Maybe a duplicate of Bug 149510.

I've been seeing this through several releases. I'm now using 7.5 and attached is a screen shot of what I get when I click on the maximize button to reduce the size; but not that much... In my case, it's always this same size when the issue occurs, regardless of release.

I'm going to go ahead and mark this as a duplicate of bug 125543, given that it actually has been confirmed with most components over there.
