In Calc 7.4.0.3, it is impossible to modify the formatting in italic: impossible to set or to cancel italic in files created with Calc 7.3.5.2. --> I can't use 7.4.0.3 version. Pierre
Italic is automatically obtained with bold !! Pierre
You need to write exact steps, with a sample document attached.

No issue with Version: 7.4.0.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: f85e47c08ddd19c015c0114a68350214f7066f5a CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (es_ES); UI: en-US Calc: CL Going to C6, clicking on the italic icon, reverts it, also with Ctrl+M resets the cell format and so the italic.
My PC OS is Mageia Linux 8. I just uninstalled LO (Libre Office) 7.4.0.3 and installed it again. The problem is still the same: the italic icon is inefficient. To get it efficient, I must reset the cell format with CTRL+M. I used the original file for years, the last version was saved with LO 7.3.5.2: everything is OK with this version of LO. I guess something is wrong somewhere. I’ll use CTRL+M to reset the formats. After having reset the cell format, everything is OK in both LO versions. Pierre
I just performed some tests: the problem appears when I use Cantarell font. Everything is OK with some other fonts !! Pierre
That probably is not about Cantarell but about variable font. If you remove that one and install Cantarell fixed font, I guess it should work. There were previous bugs for printing, this one seems new. But they are all marked duplicate so I do it also. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 103596 ***
