Description John.m.astell 2022-09-21 14:34:36 UTC
Description:
The Manage Styles pane has a drop-down menu of style categories, such as All Styles, Applied Styles, Customize Styles, etc. I request an enhancement that allows user-defined categories to be created using two or more of the categories. There could be an "User-defined..." option on the drop-down that calls up a dialog with the categories listed with check boxes. The user could selected the categories and then give a name for the result, which would then appear on the drop-drop down.

Specifically, I would like to be able to set Category to a custom Applied Styles + Custom Styles setting, but a more generalized approach as described above would be fine.

I used a mix of predefined styles but find using the All Style category is too time wasting to find a specific style. However, using Applied Styles sometimes doesn't work because I want a custom style that is not yet in use in the document. (Such a style is already defined via the document's template.) On the other had, using Custom Styles sometimes doesn't work because I want a pre-defined style such as a text style that is not yet in use in the document.

Steps to Reproduce:

Expected Results:

Reproducible: Always

One way to emulate this is by using the "Hierarchical" option in the drop-down menu.

You can create a new styles and then create sub-styles from this style, which are organized using a collapsible list of styles and sub-styles.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it is a lot of time-consuming work to do something that I think should be handled easily.

(Even better that using Hierarchical would be to just use all-custom styles, but again the work needed to do that for me is excessive.)

John, I think this is a duplicate of bug 114886. Feel free to change it back to UNCONFIRMED with a shor reasoning, if you disagree.
