Description David 2022-10-14 23:46:37 UTC
The Nuance Dragon v. 15 speech recognition software functions well when working with text using the x86 versions of LibreOffice in Windows 7 up through version 7.4.1.2. As of version 7.4.2.1, text can be entered, but text commands like the “Select” command no longer work. Nuance Dragon now displays the errors “No speech available” and “Cannot find any matching text” when trying to work with the text in a LibreOffice document.

The same errors are displayed when using x64 versions of LibreOffice (presumably because Nuance Dragon is 32bit), but now these same errors are also being displayed in the x86 versions beginning with 7.4.2.1.

After several re-installs, I finally got it to work with 7.4.2.3. I *think* what fixed it was to de-install the program and remove the profile and then reboot. It seems like the reboot may have been an important step. Just removing the profile did not solve the problem.

But even though it is now working with 7.4.2.3, it is still not working with the current master. So I am changing that to the earliest version affected.

Have you tried removing the profile and rebooting here as well?

If it still happens then: Can you describe the exact steps to reproduce?

Is the Nuance Dragon software or a test version of it available for free?

Have you also tried reporting this and the 32 bit vs. 64 bit issue to the Nuance Dragon developers?

Any input from their side on what's going wrong and what Nuance Dragon does "under the hood", might be very helpful here, in particular since that seems to be proprietary software that cannot be looked into.

I tried again, and now I can't get 32-bit edition of LibreOffice 7.5 to work without crashing (KB3063858 is installed). The only thing I can think of is that before I must have mistakenly installed the 64-bit edition. I am closing this bug and creating one for the other problem. I'll reopen this one if I continue to have an issue after the other bug is fixed.
