Description David 2022-10-18 14:39:56 UTC
The x86 build of the 7.x version of writer crashes on initialization when run on a brand-new 32-bit install of Windows 7, using default settings and with no other programs yet installed. It will run when selecting the Writer Document button from the main LibreOffice start center. But it will crash when executing either "soffice --writer" or "swriter". The problem began sometime during the 7.1.x series of releases.

Please check if your system matches the system requirements [1] - namely, if KB3063858 is installed. It became a requirement since version 7.1.

Thanks! That fixed it. Would it be possible for the install program to check for and install this patch if necessary?

Good.

We do exactly that for UCRT on all pre-Win10 systems. We could also add the update to the installer, and add checks/actions ... I hesitate doing that, though, because it further increases size of installer (it's of concern to some), and complexity. For now, we only made that into release notes and system requirements.
