Description pbatty 2022-12-09 14:48:21 UTC
Description:
Forgive me if this has been mentioned elsewhere. Of course it could be because I am a newby to LibreOffice, but IMHO the one thing that would improve LibreOffice Writer, especially when dealing with multiple images placed in to a Writer document, would be the ability to select all the placed images and then use the align and distribute functions! Unfortunately, there does not seem to be anyway to select multiple inserted images within a Writer page or document. The only way I was able to complete the said task was to place the images in to a Drawing Document, select them all, then use the align and distribute function. I then grouped the images and copied and pasted them into my Writer document. This is such a basic function used by many people writing reports, that it is either a bug or a gaping omission! If Libre Office Draw has this capability please make it so in LibreOffice Writer.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Insert multiple images in to a writer document
2.Try to select multiple images using Shift key/ or Command key by a click on each image
3. Failed to select multiple images >>>> Resort to using LibreOffice Draw to do the required task
4. Copy aligned and distributed images from Draw
5. Paste in to Writer document.

Actual Results:
As above

Expected Results:
My workaround works but it should be a basic function available in Writer.
It should have the same facilities as many other word processing applications such as MS word, Pages etc

Give the user the ability to align and distribute inserted images (multiple images on the same page or a whole document) within a Writer document without having to jump through hoops!

Reproducible: Always

Pbatty, thank you for reporting the bug. I think you report two issues
a) selecting multiple images
b) Align multple images

As there is one basic rule in bugzilla "One report, one issue" I would focus on the first problem. I was really suprised, that I couldn't find a way to select multiple images. So I confirm the problem

Perhaps duplicate of bug 121967, although that report is much braoder.

Additional information:
Using shapes it's possible to select several with shift and aign them.

The main issue described here is the inability in Writer to select multiple raster images with Shift + Click, or drag-and-drop rectangle selection, which is a duplicate of bug 34438. Marking as a duplicate.
