I have cut a video showing the problem. Sorry for the bad audio, I am on a laptop.

Actually the problem exists when trying to change styles within an .odt document, independent of the template. There seems to be a conflict between setting the font style color to Automatic with 10% Transparency.

This is a problem for me because the Automatic setting results in too much contrast for my eyes, whereas attenuating it with a bit of transparency softens the contrast.

Paul, thank you for reporting the bug. To be certain the reported issue is not
related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your
 Libreoffice profile (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) and re-test?

Dieter. Though I did not do a "profile reset" per se, I did force a new profile, as stated in the OP. Thanks.

No, the problem is not solved. I cannot set a paragraph style font effects to Automatic color and any Transparency. I close the dialog, reopen it, and either the Transparency has reverted to 0%, or the color has gone back to White. Both those settings were what was specified before I tried the change.

Reproduced in 7.0.6.2 (font transparency was introduced in 7.0) and a recent master build. Applying font transparency when using the Automatic colour changes the font colour to White. Setting it back to Automatic removes the transparency.
Not specific to styles, can be tested in the Character formatting dialog too.

Already reported in bug 139751, marking as duplicate.
Thank you Paul!
