Description ataronchronon747 2023-01-19 00:53:54 UTC
Description:
While I do like to be informed of new updates to the older stable version of LibreOffice, it is unnecessary and kind of annoying to receive the update notifications for the "technological enthusiast" version when I've no plans to install that one. Additionally, the update notification within the application does not specify what type of update it is, so you have to visit the download page to realize that it's the tech enthusiast version. Please add a setting to disable notifications for the tech enthusiast version and/or to disable update notifications altogether. Otherwise great software, thanks!

Actual Results:
Update notifications are inconsistent and too frequent, with little/no settings to modify their behavior (see Description for more info). Thanks!

Expected Results:
Allow disabling of update notifications or at least disabling of the "technological enthusiast" update notifications.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Please see Description, Actual Results, and Expected Results for more information.

Sounds sensible to add an option to only notify of updates to "still" versions of LibreOffice, jumping to a new major version only when it reaches that status.

Disabling notifications entirely might be an issue because some updates include security fixes.

Cloph, do you have an opinion on this?

Why?

Tools -> Options -> Online Update in the "Online Update Options" section. Just uncheck the feature, or adjust the periodicity. Does not change between patch builds and on update.

It might vary by distro, but control is present on the Windows builds.

Otherwise, we could provide an additional radio button choice and logic to only issue notice when the next stable "Still" branch build reaches its x.y.3 patch level.

I am just an ordinary user of LibreOffice Still but I would like to add my comment that I do find this an annoying 'feature' of LibreOffice. The update check is a great feature in itself but it needs just a bit of polish to get it working well for all users. What as a user I would like to see is something like this:

Online Update Options
[tick box] Check for updates automatically. (As already exists.)
[3 radio boxes] User selects periodicity of the check. (As already exists.)
[tick box] Check for updates to Fresh. (Needs added.)
[tick box] Check for updates to Still. (Needs added.)

The above should satisfy everyone. I do find it quite annoying that being on Still my LibreOffice is checking updates for Fresh.
